Sunshine and sycamore trees. I noticed the sycamore tree in our garden was looking very fresh and spring like with the new green leaves. I was asked some time ago if I could provide four images of Sycamore Gap, one for each season and I had one for two for each month let alone each season. When I arrived the sky was clear and blue, not always a boon for photographs then clouds started to cross the sky behind the tree making things a lot more interesting. Birds on the Farne Islands. As promised some of the bird photographs I took on Inner Farne and on the. It's an amazing priviledge to be able to get so close to these wild birds and my only regret was that I didn't go earlier in the season then I could have made a few more visits. From Gilsland, it's only an hours drive to Keswick and the north Lakes, so when the weather looked promising I set my alarm and headed off to Castlerigg Stone Circle. And knew where the sun would be rising and after an easy drive down the M6 I arrived at Castlerigg. Castlerigg Stone Circle panorama ( click to see it at full size). Saw a couple photographing the boats with the light catching Catbells behind and not wanting to impose I went further along towards Friar's Crag. Derwentwater below Friar's Crag.

A wee while ago I saw something in the Cumberland News about Red Squirrels at. And as my quest to photograph these cute animals is, as yet, unfulfilled off I went to check out Talkin Tarn. It's a flat area of water near Brampton in Cumbria, managed by Carlisle City Council, they seem to come in for a lot of criticism over the management plans but I have to say I think they've done a grand job. Metcheck was showing good weather to the west of Gilsland, and rain to the east so it was an easy decision to head to Caerlaverock. TT came with me, he hasn't been during the winter months so hasn't seen the mass of swans and geese that overwinter on the Solway coast. Tuesday, 7 May 2013. What madness is it that makes someone want to run 53 miles through Scotland in April? Well, let's see. How Did We Get Here? 4 years ago a work colleague, let's call him Clive. I won't bore you with the details, but I didn't feel ready for a 2011 attempt. I was ready for a go in 2012 but broke my ankle in the winter, so with a deferred place to the 2013 race, it was decided that this would be it. This has stuck with me since I read it in his blog and proved invaluable in the race.
