Arable farming

http://fisherfamily.me.uk/history/arable.html

Removals from Easter Aberfeldy. MacDonald and Fraser families. Mixed farming predominated in Highland Perthshire with rents largely paid in kind. Oats and bear predominated and tended to be of inferior quality and predominantly used as cattle feed and straw. The grain component of the human diet was mainly satisfied by the specialist crop farms in the neighbourhood or supplies brought in from the numerous marketing centres dotted along the edge of the Highlands. Infield / outfield system. The term 'merkl...

Historical events impacting on the Fishers from Aberfeldy

http://fisherfamily.me.uk/history/history.html

Removals from Easter Aberfeldy. MacDonald and Fraser families. While little is known about individual family members, much has been written about the times in which they lived. 18th century Highland life is remarkably well described in contemporaneous accounts by Burt*, Thomas Pennant. Robert Southey, William Gilpin, Dorothy Wordsworth and James Boswell and Samuel Johnson. The social history of this period in Scotland is fascinating, much of it focusing on the poverty in the Scottish highlands. The '15 a...

Fisher Family from Aberfeldy

http://fisherfamily.me.uk/index.html

Removals from Easter Aberfeldy. MacDonald and Fraser families. A Family in Breadalbane. As its name would suggest, this site was set up to document the history of one family that lived in Highland Perthshire. Having taken our family history as far as I can, and to try to understand the changing world that forced my ancestors to adapt, I am now concentrating on the history of Breadalbane where they lived. If you would like to contact me, Alan Fisher, please use this e-mail link. In April 2015 a small muse...

Saturday, November 16, 2013. We had some fun for our activity during Family Home evening this week. It was the most fun when we would mess up and have to do it again. My family is awesome and I am glad we are all willing to laugh at ourselves and be goofy. To me, that is what being a family is all about. I like M's face while she does it. She cracks me up with her over dramatization. Even doing funny things like this, she is still a lovely lady. Ok, maybe not. Thursday, November 14, 2013. He thought it w...

Fisher Family from Aberfeldy

MacDonald and Fraser families. 300 years in Highland Perthshire. This site attempts to document the history of one family who for more than three centuries lived. In the centre of Scotland in a small part of what is now known as ' Highland Perthshire'. Their story began at the south-eastern end of Loch Tay close to the reconstruction of an iron-age crannog. The post Second World War generation dispersed all over the UK and the 'Fisher' name once common in and around Aberfeldy is now notable by its absence.

Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Links to this post. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. We went to an aviary - the kids had a lot of fun playing and occasionally looking at birds :) I am constantly forgetting and remembering how hands on and very into active play this bunch is. Creating, moving, playing - those are the times that we are all at our best in this family. When we try to go for quiet, observant and sitting everyone is miserable. Links to this post.
