A Fantastic Legacy: Day Two - News from Nowhere
http://shewhomust.livejournal.com/448660.html
A Fantastic Legacy: Day Two - News from Nowhere. A Fantastic Legacy: Day Two. Oct 9th, 2014 08:56 pm. For the second day of the Diana Wynne Jones conference. The morning was divided into parallel sessions: you chose between two themes, and heard a series of (usually three) short papers, followed by questions and discussions. I asked no-one in particular at the end of the introductory session, did she really say that the printed version is more up to date than the website? Started my day on a high note: i...

Maybe it's living in Somerville, or having a housemate, or something else unrelated to traffic noise. I joked with my doctor that she should recommend Somerville to all her patients with high blood pressure. I can't afford to have "quiet" be anything like a deal-breaker. But I do ask if a place is quiet, or what the noise is like around here. Oh, this is an old building, so the walls are very thick- it's very quiet.". I only practice the violin between noon and 10pm.". January 8th, 2014 06:29 am (UTC).

April 20th, 2006. 01:03 pm - Thank you! Just wanted to say "Thank you for a very enjoyable con indeed! To the committee and all others who worked to make it happen. (I may or may not write a con report for my blog later, but working on the assumption that it won't happen, it's better to say something even if it's not much, than nothing at all.). Thank you for a very enjoyable con indeed! April 20th, 2006 11:27 am (UTC). It was my first Eastercon and I had an excellent time. April 20th, 2006 11:30 am (UTC).

Concussion report 1 - Wednesday - My Motley Meanderings

I Hit Turbo but Nothing Happened. Concussion report 1 - Wednesday. I finished building Rampaging Roger, Beyond Cyberdrome 2006's Houseboat Robot, this afternoon. Well, apart from a little tweaking (one of the motors goes faster than the other at the moment). This evening I spent several hours packing my Dad's Renault Laguna Estate up to the roof with stuff to take up to Glasgow. There's still a few things left to shoe-horn in tomorrow morning (like, for example, MY CLOTHES! Put big flat sheets of plywood...

Thursday, 19 March 2015. A Clarke 2015 shortlist and a few thoughts on Bête. The Clarke Award 2015. Some rich, vital novels are definitely going to miss out on any shortlist action this year. I’m still working my way through all the contenders but, aware that the shortlist may be out anytime soon, mine would be:. B ête – Adam Roberts. A Man Lies Dreaming – Lavie Tidhar. The Race - Nina Allan. Station Eleven – Emily Mandel. Europe in Autumn – Dave Hutchinson. The Girl in the Road – Monica Byrne. What subt...

Dancing on Glass: March & April Reading (+ the Clarke, the Baileys and Eduardo Galeano)
http://dancingonglass11.blogspot.com/2015/05/march-april-reading-clarke-baileys-and.html
Tuesday, 5 May 2015. March and April Reading ( the Clarke, the Baileys and Eduardo Galeano). There was lots of online coverage about the death of Günter Grass but much less about Eduardo Galeano. This is a great shame. Not only was he a great novelist but also a brilliant, outspoken critic against the wild excesses of capitalism and Western Imperialism. I urge everyone to read him. My first William Gibson EVER, hugely enjoyable. And thoughts from John Self here. An Artist of the Floating World. The Arthu...
