The food is superb - a selection of local fish and other delicacies from the southern waters such as Titi (Muttonbird). Most of the vegetables come from small organic growers around the region, especially heritage vegetables and potatoes. Fleur is building up a unique Moeraki Maori potato in her garden, with the idea to use it in the restaurant. See our blackboard for fish of the days catch, Blue Cod, Dory, Moki, Blue nose, Gurnard, Sole, Flounder, Groper, Crayfish.

Moeraki, is a small sleepy fishing village, some 70km north of Dunedin and 30km south of Oamaru and means "a place to rest by day". The area has a rich Maori, whaling and sealing history. It's famous for the beach with perfectly rounded boulders, millions of years old, - The Moeraki boulders. The yellow eye and blue penguin colonies, sea birds and seals can bee seen resting on the rocks alongside the Moeraki Lighthouse (1878).

Take a beach walk to the startling Moeraki boulders, 60 million years old and nestled like eggs into the sand along the coastline. The sea is slowly eroding the boulders and uncovering new ones - some are up to 4 metres in circumference.

Its a round up of colours, tastes and moments of that North Otago roadie that energised us big time a couple of weeks ago. Moeraki pics first up. Fish drying outside Fleur's. Loving the Oamaru Botanic Gardens. I spent a few childhood holidays here with my Grandmother. Oamaru - such a weird place, such a good place. House smoked fish starter. And crazy, gold mining country and unaffectedness all around.
