Tree houses

http://www.flyintheface.com/treehouses.html

Looking up, not down. An occupational hazard of my usual work is an inclination to look down as I walk, always keeping an eye out for what treasure (or horror) may have washed up in my path. For a current project I am on a new mission, searching the woods where I walk each day for tree houses - a joyful occupation in our cold winter months. Perhaps I am a. Collector after all (even if only in the virtual sense).

3

Sea Wall - protecting the sea from the land

http://www.flyintheface.com/seawall.html

Protecting the sea from the land. There is much talk about defending the land from the sea. But what consideration has been given to defending the sea from the land? I propose to create a new sea defence that not only defends the sea from land-based pollutants (plastics, sewage etc) but also helps cleanse the sea of pollutants at the same time! At the same time. Helping to free the sea from the pollutants that threaten to swamp it!

walking to save one square mile of sea....

http://www.flyintheface.com/46000.html

WALKING TO SAVE SOME SEA - MY 46000 CHALLENGE. According to a United Nations report issued in June 2006, humankind's exploitation of the the deep seas and oceans is 'rapidly passing the point of no return'. I was really shocked to discover that the report estimated that there are on average around 46,000 pieces of plastic litter floating on every square mile of ocean. Northumbrian beach were found to have over 10,000 fibres in just one litre of sand. To see how much I collected and where, click here.

A present from... souvenirs

http://www.flyintheface.com/a%20present%20from....html

In order to highlight the problems of marine and beach litter, I collect beach debris and package it as souvenirs. Whether in the gallery, the market or on the beach, I set up stall and offer the products for 'sale' in return for a donation to the Marine Conservation Society. A publicity campaign accompanied the launch event at Thorpeness, Suffolk, in April - see press release. And coverage included live radio interviews. Find out here about a unique new franchise opportunity and a chance to join in.

A year at the edge: May 2012

http://ayearattheedge.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Monday, 28 May 2012. An amazing still warm evening - perfect for an evening walk - yet we have the beach to ourselves. The sea is an alluring iridescent silvery blue - I wish that I had brought a towel to swim. - and is spoilt only by a slight brownish pall of pollution that hangs on the horizon. The cliffs cast long shadows onto the beach as the sun drops. Several starfishes have been brought in on the tide. The sea kale is magnificent, filling the air with its sweet honeyed scent. 1538 hrs 2.6m. I pick...

A year at the edge: September 2011

http://ayearattheedge.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 27 September 2011. Barricades have appeared on the beach, dissecting the shingle and cutting off the beach to the north. This is my favourite area to walk and will be inaccessible due to sea defence work until at least December. Ironically, huge quantities of shingle have recently returned to the beach, vastly increasing the work necessary in order to install the defences. Nature plays cruel tricks. Tidal pickings are low and I am able to travel light on my way home. Time of arrival: 17.01hrs.

I would lie and say that your not on my mind. But I go out, and I sit down at a table set for two. And finally I'm forced to face the truth.

Art for a change. Flyintheface is the webspace of Fran Crowe. It’s about creating: sometimes a scene; hopefully waves; and occasionally something beautiful. It’s about exploring, informing and sharing. It’s about art, projects, ideas and how we live our lives. It’s a gallery, a hobbyhorse, a protest, a creation, an exchange, a provocation. It’s subversive, it’s silly and it’s deadly serious. You are invited to dip in, browse, exchange ideas, borrow, download, contribute.and to fly in the face.
