Focus on Nature: 03/01/2013 - 04/01/2013
http://focusonnature.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
A photographic study on Nature. Thursday, March 21, 2013. The following are shots from my recent trip to the "Sugar Pine Walk" just out of Tumbarumba in Laurel Hill. These pines have been let go wild and give an idea how grand nature can get if we give it enough time to reach its potential. While not exactly redwoods, an experience nonetheless. Focus on Nature: Morning journey
http://focusonnature.blogspot.com/2014/12/morning-jorney.html
A photographic study on Nature. Sunday, December 28, 2014. Although not here often I do call past and post occasionally. I hope that Christmas was good for those that celebrate it and that those whose New Year comes soon have a prosperous one. Here is a small vid for those who keep a wonder of nature in their hearts despite a busy world. Add a comment to this post. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A photographic study on Nature. Monday, December 31, 2012. Xmas eve storms 2012. Its been a great year for photography and the huge storms that lashed NSW Australia on Xmas eve were no exception. Here is an animation of the build up and light show that has been compiled from the sequential shots taken that day. Have a great New Year and see you for more in 2013. Add a comment to this post. A photographic study on Nature. Thursday, March 06, 2014. Back after the heat. Little did I know the fun we were in for over summer back in late October at the time of my last post. With over 2 months of searing heat consistently reaching the mid 40's in the Celsius scale and some nights still 30 Celsius at midnight the skies were free of birds and creatures great and small retreated to whatever haven they could find from the relentless temperatures. So I am back at it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View m...

Sandy Straits and Beyond: April 2015
http://sandystraitsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Sandy Straits and Beyond. Monday, April 27, 2015. Even under the mangroves the reflections were nearly perfect. I stayed well out from the roost where I expected to find shorebirds and then sat sill on the kayak and let myself gradually drift in closer. When I do this the birds allow a much closer approach than if I paddle in with paddles flashing in the sunlight. Of course the Pied Oystercatchers were there and reflected in the still water. Several more photos of the Little Egrets made a great finish to...

Sandy Straits and Beyond: November 2014
http://sandystraitsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sandy Straits and Beyond. Tuesday, November 25, 2014. High Tide at Mullens Roost. Walking around to the Mullens roost becomes more interesting when the tide is very high. Just how deep is the water around that tree and would it be easier to scramble through the bushes behind the tide line? High tide makes the roost look very beautiful. Something disturbed the shorebirds on the other side of the roost and they all flew up then settled down again on that side. Monday, November 10, 2014. Quite a number of o...

Sandy Straits and Beyond: In My Yard
http://sandystraitsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015/06/in-my-yard.html
Sandy Straits and Beyond. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. I have a large house block - 2100 sq M. (which is just over half an acre). When I first came here the immediate need was for a fence that would keep my dog and cat at home with me! The easiest and cheapest was a good high wire fence which I then proceeded to hide with a lot of perimeter plantings. After 12 years here I now have lovely green walls that keep growing. One side is now a hedge of Lilly Pillies (. Which has to be trimmed regularly! I planted th...

Sandy Straits and Beyond: Mid-winter feeling like spring
http://sandystraitsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015/07/mid-winter-feeling-like-spring.html
Sandy Straits and Beyond. Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Mid-winter feeling like spring. Yesterday was a perfect day - blue sky, bright sunshine, and a temperature of 24 (75F). I went down to the Mullens Picnic area to see what birds were around. At 9:30am the tide was slowly coming in. I had to go down again three hours later just to take a photo of high tide at the same place. And plenty more in full flower. The birds were there in hundreds - all calling and shrieking at the tops of their "birdy' voices! Littl...

Sandy Straits and Beyond: January 2015
http://sandystraitsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Sandy Straits and Beyond. Monday, January 26, 2015. High Tide at Mullens. There was high cloud around which thickened quite quickly until the bright colors were dulled. (There are lots of birds just visible on the far side. Click on the photo to enlarge it.). A little further around the roost there were Eastern Curlews standing close to Godwits. The size difference is quite striking when they are standing close like this. Although Curlews don't get bright colors for breeding, the browns and blacks darken...

Sandy Straits and Beyond: May 2015
http://sandystraitsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sandy Straits and Beyond. Monday, May 25, 2015. The flags were still out to mark the safest place for people to swim but I didn't see too many people swimming. There were quite a few lying out on the sand and working on their tans - but I am pretty sure they were visitors - locals would prefer it a bit warmer! Way out on the edge of the horizon there was a sail boat moving slowly south. Just google "Mudlo Rocks" to see photos and videos of any number of vehicles that didn't make it! Tuesday, May 19, 2015.

Sandy Straits and Beyond: August 2015
http://sandystraitsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Sandy Straits and Beyond. Tuesday, August 25, 2015. First these were called "Bottlebrush" then they become known as "Callistemon" and now they are "Melaleuca". Whatever the name the honey/nectar eating birds love them. I have a number of these bushes growing down the sides of my place. There are a number of red flowering ones and also ones with pale cream flowers. At present there is only this red one flowering. Yesterday there were a number of Little Friarbirds (Philemon citreogularis). BUT when I had t...

Focus on Nature
A photographic study on Nature. Saturday, December 23, 2017. Longhorn beetles make a show. Its been quite hot lately and a trip around the yard looking for summer time creatures revealed the strange sight below. Erupting from the bark of an acacia was this strange form. Carefully removed it looked as below and was approximately 10 cm in length. Interested i searched for what had emerged and suspected a variety of Longhorn Beetle. The next night this guy turned up on the doorstep. Saturday, August 13, 2016.
