Bluegrass Momma: February 2015
http://brooklynbabymomma.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 21, 2015. Why We Outlawed the Disney Channel. Adios, Dog with a Blog! Stella's teacher has a daily system to let parents know how their child performed. Green is great. Yellow-orange-red means that boundaries were tested to various extremes. As a reward for a green day, we let Stella watch some TV. We might as well pay her $1,000 per day, as much as that kid loves TV. Soon, we developed our family favorites. Dog with a Blog. And Liv and Maddie. Because she's not a size 2 and she doesn'...

Bluegrass Momma: Stop Telling Parents to "Enjoy Every Moment"
http://brooklynbabymomma.blogspot.com/2014/12/stop-telling-parents-to-enjoy-every.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Stop Telling Parents to "Enjoy Every Moment". Some days, this goes on for hours and hours. Sam is 16 months old now. That's the same age Stella was that day I told Dave he had to take me to the ER because I was afraid of what I would do to myself if he left me alone. But, if I'm going to be honest with you, part of it was parenting a child at this really difficult age. 16 months is a long time to go without decent sleep. Sam is a better sleeper than Stella, thank God. ...All t...

Bluegrass Momma: Transition
http://brooklynbabymomma.blogspot.com/2014/11/transition.html
Sunday, November 9, 2014. In childbirth, transition is often the most difficult part. This stage where the cervix goes from 8 to 10 centimeters dilated is challenging, sometimes causing a laboring mother to doubt herself and become negative. It is the darkness before the dawn. Don't worry. This isn't going to a birthy post, all you non-birthy people. It gives me a regular salary and benefits while I pursue my doula business on the side. Good luck, Randi! Bluegrass Momma: September 2014
http://brooklynbabymomma.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 22, 2014. Feminist Mom" is Not an Oxymoron. I found this cool symbol on this website. It's nothing new for feminists to be at odds among each other. After all, we are a vast group of people who, in essence, share only anatomy and a desire for equality. What that equality looks like and is composed of is often a matter of heated debate. And one of the biggest rifts in the community I've witnessed is child-free feminists vs. feminist moms. Women who stand up for equal pay for women judge ...

Saturday, January 11, 2014. How Pregnancy and Birth Finally Helped Me Love My Body. Witness the Body Roller Coaster. In America, many women complain about how childbirth and pregnancy ruin their bodies. They’re fatter, saggier, stretched out. For me, though, my births helped me finally gain the respect and love for my body that I’d always missed. Why is Mommy so fit when she’s in her 8. Grade cheerleading outfit but then so thick when she’s in her junior year school picture? What do I tell her? Book Repo...

Bluegrass Momma: July 2014
http://brooklynbabymomma.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 20, 2014. I Need a Best Friend. A Young, Sassy, Pre-Kid Randi with Alex in NYC. An Older, Still-Sassy, Post-Kid Randi with Katie in Orlando. I recently spent two days with my college roommate, Katie, at her house in Orlando. When I left, after hours spent talking about every known topic with this woman who gets me on every single level, I felt like a salve had been applied to my soul. I also felt thoroughly depressed to leave her. Wednesday, July 16, 2014. The other day I was driving in the ...

Bluegrass Momma: October 2014

Thursday, October 16, 2014. Why I Care about C-Sections (Even Though I Never Had One). First, a story about back problems. Around four years ago, I had terrible sciatica. I could barely walk and I was in excruciating pain. My general practitioner referred me to an orthopedic surgeon, who recommended an epidural shot. I tried this procedure twice with no luck. Then the doctor suggested spinal surgery to correct the bulging disc that was causing me so much pain. What's wonderful about this story was that t...
