FORAGE FOR ... FLOWERS . HANDMADE . VINTAGE

http://www.foragefor.co.uk/about/about.asp

Well, actually we don t really look like this although that is a mighty fine moustache, a nice line of fresh violets embedded in that fluff and we could have ourselves a rather dandy moustache logo. Of course this does make it difficult for our customer base who are now used to picking and choosing the specific flowers they have and when they have them. However, more and more people are putting their faith in locally sourced, seasonal flowers and awareness of the issues of sustainability appear to be...

Foragefor... news: Malvern RHS Spring Festival 2015

http://foragefor.blogspot.com/2015/05/malvern-rhs-spring-festival-2015.html

Friday, 8 May 2015. Malvern RHS Spring Festival 2015. The view from the car park! Inspiration in the floral marquee and indoor arenas. I'm not a great fan of indoor plants I just have a select few, but I couldn't stop staring at these fascinating 'beasts' from the gold medal winners Dibleys. Move away from the tulips Anne-Marie! To Mr Russell, thank you for your hand written labels for each of your lovely entries! The Auriculas are always irresistible in garden shows. This mustard one is a beaut.

Wednesday, 20 March 2013. Blue Muscari Steal My Heart. Mmmmm, I love blue muscari. I like all the other colours too, but the blue, well, that just steals my heart! I have muscari in the garden, at various stages, i.e. year one, two and three since their planting, so they are all at different heights and sizes. I have blue, purple, green and pink and I absolutely adore the texture of their compact. In amongst violets and pansies. Getting a frilly 'skirt'! Looking into the tiny open 'bells'. The Yellow of ...

Sunday, 29 March 2015. Great Dixter Spring Plant Fair 2015. I don't need too many excuses to visit Great Dixter in East Sussex but the added advantage of the 2015 Spring Plant Fair was just too much to resist! The tropicals wrapped up for winter. The house porch always looks inspiring. Tulips ready for the next porch display? Magnolias like lobster claws ready to bloom. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Foragefor... news: June Cabinet Reshuffle

http://foragefor.blogspot.com/2015/06/june-cabinet-reshuffle.html

Sunday, 28 June 2015. In the last week of June I thought I would share a few sown, grown, picked and shuffled beauties from the walled garden that have been used for many a bouquet, dish and for confetti. Wondrous British floral June. 28 June 2015 at 04:46. A fine shuffle. Good foundation. The future looks bright. x. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. ForageFor on the web. Wednesday, 1 May 2013. Fauna rather than Flora. Yesterday I welcomed the arrival of three new ForageFor team members, three gorgeous hedgehogs! Just lifted out of the box and placed near a lovely rough pile of leaves and dead branches. Turning for a little look back, love those cute snouts! Two made a direct beeline for the pile of twigs to get well concealed and have a good sleep. And finally it settled . almost invisible! But my day of fauna wasn't over. As well as hearing woodpeckers in the woodla...

http://foragefor.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Monday, 24 June 2013. I love vintage I-Spy books and recently found this lovely ‘Wild Flowers’ edition from the 1950s so I couldn't resist sharing its contents in a post today. The introduction page is quite charming and the idea, that if you get 1000 or 1500 points for 'I-Spying' wild flowers, you get to be a botanist AND win a feather, is very generous! So working in the garden today, I felt sure I could award myself 20 points for the foxglove . And 16 for the field poppy. Odhu ntiggo to all! Here are ...

http://foragefor.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, 22 May 2014. Chelsea Flower Show 2014. He just wouldn't leave me alone! They can design my garden anytime! This was meant to be the very serious Dan Pearson, I had a huge crush on him in the 90s but instead of Dan I got the enthusiastic Thomas Heatherwick. A trifolium of Chelsea Pensioners? On with the gardens. I waited to see what he would look like with these hanging down. Ooh now, I could use one of these in the walled garden! Like a sweet shop. It's still a no. Forager's Harvest

Wednesday, January 31, 2018. How to Make an Herbal Tincture. Herbalists generally believe that tinctures made of alcohol are more effective in releasing all the medicinal components from the plant than other methods. Seal the mason jar with a sterilized lid and place it in a cool dark place. Label the jar with the date of preparation and the herbal contents. Shake the herbal tincture each day for two weeks. An herbal tincture can be used to preserve herbs for medicinal use. Herbal tinctures are gener...

Foragefor... news

Friday, 17 July 2015. So to celebrate the beautiful apricot foxglove, here are a few photos of this year's harvest to share. The flower heads just starting to surge skyward during the first week of May this year. Moving in closer to those beautiful bell shaped flowers. Definitely worthy of the display cabinet. And for filling a wooden crate. And for large gatherings preparing for a wedding. Choosing ribbon for a 'foxglove bride'. In certain lights you can see right through the foxglove like an xray.

Forage and Forge | Adventures in sustainable suburban living

Adventures in sustainable suburban living. We haven’t gone away- we’ve just moved! December 5, 2016. Have you noticed things have been a bit quiet lately? That’s because we’ve moved to a brand, spanking new website. You can find all the old stuff, and heaps of great new posts too, over at. There’s lots of new info on canning and homeschooling, and it’s all much easier to find with the new format. There’s a great community building over there too 🙂. Hope to see you over there soon.
