The quick brown fox leaps over the lazy black dog. In this case, I am the lazy dog. After the 50 miler, I have had no motivation to get back into it. The problem is that I know that I should be hitting it hard. I got a half iron coming up in April and I think it’s early April! That doesn’t give me much time to get my butt in gear. IM CDA - 2009.

Friday, June 26, 2009. Race Report - Ironman Coeur D'Alene. Or, "Charlie Brown vs. Plate Tectonics". What an epic day. (Sorry in advance, the report will mirror it! Meredith dropped me off as close as she could get, and I walked in the rest of the way with my special needs bags. And my path happened to take me right to body marking. Score. But the woman I ended up with told me I needed to get rid of my sweatshirt. Why? I was glad I showed up early, as it let me not panic too much through all of this.

This year I knew I was in much better shape coming out of T1, I ran the first mile and mentally I was thinking just get to the first aid station and see how I feel. At about 0.9 cramps in my thighs started and I wondered if this was to be where it all went to pieces again. I made it into the aid station before it flared up though. The final turn around came and I saw the clock and knew a sub 1hr 40.

Realised this about 5 miles in. There was no way I was going 112 miles in florida sun without the block and luckily the aid stations had some. As you can see I pretty much ate and drank continuously. But it worked! As ever though you never quite know how well you will feel when you leave T2. I'm guessing it doesn't!
