Electric Sheep is a collaborative abstract artwork founded by Scott Draves. It's run by thousands of people all over the world, and can be installed. On any ordinary PC, Mac, Android, or iPad. When these computers "sleep", the Electric Sheep comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as "sheep". Now available for Apple TV in 1080p: Search for "Electric Sheep" in the Apple TV app store, and look for the blue spiral.

When the client is running, press F1 to bring up the help text overlay, including a list of all keyboard commands. If you create an account, then you can post in the user forum. And subscribe to the announcement email list. I don't see any sheep. Or just one or two sheep. It does not render. Or learn more on our wiki FAQ.

This program is recommended only if you have a high-bandwidth, always-on connection to the internet such as DSL or cable modem. It should download and display within a minute, but due to server load it may take a long time, please be patient, and press F2 to monitor its progress. When it's running, press F1 for help. Each of the images in the column on the right side of these pages is a freshly rendered sheep. They are linked to the server's status pages with full resolution versions. Note that the sheep were compressed with x264 which cannot be played by Windows or Mac by default. Open source programs such as MPlayer. Work fine however. Mac OSX users may need Perian. You may also browse the best. Of the current generation, or the archive. Of previous generations of sheep. Or download a full quality quicktime.

Design Your Own Sheep. Sun, 09/27/2009 - 15:03 spot. While the screensaver is running, you can use the up (or down) arrow key to vote for the sheep you like (or not), and so influence the evolution of the flock. Furthermore, you can design your own sheep and post them into the gene pool. If your sheep are popular, they will interbreed with the rest of the flock and produce children. By mutating and crossing the genomes, variations of your sheep will appear and themselves evolve. Mac users run Oxidizer.
