Poetry Please: The Laboratory
http://forwhomthebell.blogspot.com/2008/03/laboratory.html
Forum for discussing poetry, especially GCSE AQA anthology poems. Thursday, 6 March 2008. Browning has used a rather jaunty rhythm in this poem, which sounds almost comic in contrast to the subject matter. He also has his speaker move jerkily from one thing to another, as if she is distracted by what she sees around her in the chemist's shop. Everyone's idea of the speaker will be different, but I see her as quite young, rather silly, and obviously with a jealous and vindictive nature.
Poetry Please: June 2007

Forum for discussing poetry, especially GCSE AQA anthology poems. Friday, 22 June 2007. I think it's the choice of words that make it most chilling - the contrast. Betwen affection and despair, a charnel house or Belsen, and a roost, a nest, a home. Links to this post. Labels: Not My Business; Vultures; contrast; emotive language. Friday, 15 June 2007. Seems to me that Dharker wrote this. When she came to a big change in her life, and one which made her feel excited, not to say ecstatic.
Poetry Please: November 2007

Forum for discussing poetry, especially GCSE AQA anthology poems. Wednesday, 28 November 2007. What Were They Like? Look at this site for comparison suggestions. And in-depth analysis of the poem. Http:/ www.boardthebard.com/attachments/1578.pdf. One group of students performed this poem as if the questioner was a torturer/interrogator, and the person replying a victim. That brought out the hidden violence in the poem very well. Links to this post. Tuesday, 27 November 2007. Search for my tongue. I've ne...
Poetry Please: On The Train
http://forwhomthebell.blogspot.com/2008/01/on-train.html
Forum for discussing poetry, especially GCSE AQA anthology poems. Wednesday, 30 January 2008. Contrasts the everyday, "Darling, I'm on the train", that overused sentence you hear all the time from people on their mobiles, calling to tell wife or boyfriend that they are on their way home, with the horror of the Paddington rail crash, and the people who would never see their homes again, whose phones "ring in the rubble" while "wolves howl into silent telephones.". On My First Sonne. 25 March 2008 at 00:54.
Poetry Please: March 2008

Forum for discussing poetry, especially GCSE AQA anthology poems. Wednesday, 26 March 2008. I agree with Artqueen when she says that. On My First Sonne. Contains a lot of religious reference e.g. the idea that the poet committed a "sinne" to love his son so much. Other poems with reference to religion could be Tichborne's Elegie, if only because he died for his religion, wanting Mary Queen of Scots, a Catholic, on the throne of England instead of Elizabeth. There's also religious reference in. Stands out...

for whom the bell rings
For whom the bell rings. Perception of myself as a teacher. Do they know what they need to do, what they are learning, what’s the expectations, and how do they know? You can’t have a car without all the little parts working in conjunction. The parts need to work in order, a complex algorithm of gears, on and off switches, individual functions, and emergency systems in place, an airbag in a final disaster. How did the wheels fall of right before the finish line? Can I put the pieces back together? To feel...
For Whom the Bells Blog
For Whom the Bells Blog. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Jay and I always said that we would post in the blog more when we have a baby. Well, we're not quite there yet, but the time is getting closer. Only 8.5 more weeks. Other people keep saying time is flying, but I feel like I've been pregnant forever. Time has been moving very slowly for me. I'm just now starting to get more uncomfortable and am no longer sleeping well with this big ole belly in the way. 6 weeks, 6 days. 8 weeks; heartbeat at the bottom.
