For whom the bell rings. By for whom the bell rings. 8220;fixing” bad schools. Usually headlines like The Secret to Fixing Bad Schools. On the New York Times and other establishments are some long winded ideas from people who aren’t teachers, or who look at models that wouldn’t fit the whole country, but every once in a while, an article get it right. what are they learning and how do you know? | for whom the bell rings
https://forwhomthebellrings.wordpress.com/2013/02/24/what-are-they-learning-and-how-do-you-know
For whom the bell rings. By for whom the bell rings. What are they learning and how do you know? What’s going on? Is this, perhaps, the most important question for new teachers? Not only are the students are learning, the teacher must have verifiable. That they are learning. It seems like it would be useful to think of teaching like a scientific experiment. What am I teaching them? What is the procedure? What observations and data do I need? Was my lesson good? I’ll be doing morning and afternoon r...
perception of myself as a teacher | for whom the bell rings

For whom the bell rings. By for whom the bell rings. Perception of myself as a teacher. Do they know what they need to do, what they are learning, what’s the expectations, and how do they know? You can’t have a car without all the little parts working in conjunction. The parts need to work in order, a complex algorithm of gears, on and off switches, individual functions, and emergency systems in place, an airbag in a final disaster. How did the wheels fall of right before the finish line?
grades (inside and out) | for whom the bell rings

For whom the bell rings. By for whom the bell rings. Grades (inside and out). As I’m learning to be a teacher, I have been paying close attention to formative assessment and true growth of students. I was reading this blog post. Where a teacher teaches that learning is the goal, not grades. It’s so important in the classroom to create the concept that we are here to learn. It’s beyond amazing – but there are a lot of forces against this idea. 3 thoughts on “ grades (inside and out). 28/01/2013 at 1:26 am.
Testing Teachers | for whom the bell rings
https://forwhomthebellrings.wordpress.com/2013/03/05/testing-teachers
For whom the bell rings. Reading this article, I really think Cliff Mass is missing the mark on a few points:. 1 The testing process to become a teacher is much more than the West B. There’s the West E and the EdTPA. Personally, I have gone beyond Calculus, Linear Algebra, Matrix Algebra, but deep understanding of math isn’t enough to be able to teach it. How many college professors in mathematics could teach fifth graders? 3 What is the purpose of math? Are we training excellent calculators? This post (...

One child at a time…. They’re more like guidelines This insight has helped me to better understand what to look for in lessons, to think deeply about how to teach my students what they need to know to be successful. Why is subbing stressful? | ponderinged

Just another WordPress.com site. Why is subbing stressful? January 20, 2013. We’ve all been there, done that. Perhaps we were the super silly six year old squirming side to side, not able to sit still, blurting out our every idea, or the teacher, exasperated wondering what to do now. This week, I found myself asking why is subbing so stressful? Why do children choose to test every boundary, push every button, and seek that power of numbers with their little peer group? Looking for more ideas on classroom...

Just another WordPress.com site. March 5, 2013. This past week, I receivd this note in my school mail box. The significance is that the assignment was to write a Valentine’s Day letter to any person you would like; family, friend, teacher. Most of the children in the class chose family. I felt fortunate to know that I made a big enough difference that when presented with this opportunity, this child selected me. Filed under Primary Education. One response ». Teachers at several schools around Seattle have refused to administer the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test in the past few weeks. The boycott initially began in December, with a few teachers at Garfield High stating. The administration has reacted cautiously, especially as teachers from many other schools. But what’s the big deal? Why won’t teachers just sit down and administer this one test? Whether or not you agree with a boycott of the MAP test, it is exciting to see teachers coming together to...

Poetry Please
Forum for discussing poetry, especially GCSE AQA anthology poems. Wednesday, 26 March 2008. I agree with Artqueen when she says that. On My First Sonne. Contains a lot of religious reference e.g. the idea that the poet committed a "sinne" to love his son so much. Other poems with reference to religion could be Tichborne's Elegie, if only because he died for his religion, wanting Mary Queen of Scots, a Catholic, on the throne of England instead of Elizabeth. There's also religious reference in. Stands out...

For Whom the Bells Blog
For Whom the Bells Blog. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Jay and I always said that we would post in the blog more when we have a baby. Well, we're not quite there yet, but the time is getting closer. Only 8.5 more weeks. Other people keep saying time is flying, but I feel like I've been pregnant forever. Time has been moving very slowly for me. I'm just now starting to get more uncomfortable and am no longer sleeping well with this big ole belly in the way. 6 weeks, 6 days. 8 weeks; heartbeat at the bottom.
