It all underlines how worthwhile our sustained efforts over the years have been in helping to keep Hagg Wood accessible to people and improving its natural environment. To catch the mood of being in the wood the following poem was composed by Jeanette Parkinson:. In the middle of Hagg Wood. Here we sit as quiet as can be. I wonder what’s hiding behind that tree. There’s mud on the ground and some on my welly.

A woodland community group. Friends of Hagg Wood. The Grapevine Parish Magazine entry for October 2016. We are concerned about the number of fires that have been lit in the wood recently. Fires are a danger and are not permitted in the wood. The Forestry Commission has placed notices in the wood which I copy below. Our next working parties are, 22. January. A woodland community group. Friends of Hagg Wood. The Grapevine Parish Magazine entry for December 2016. It has been a stunning autumn in Hagg Wood. The leaves remained on the trees as late as mid November which is relatively unusual in this part of the country. On the bright sunny autumn days it was a joy to see the variety of colours in the wood, vivid reds, yellows and orange/browns. The next working parties will be on December 3. In preparation for our 20th Anniversary Event on 4 June, fourteen volunteers did an excellent job in cutting the grass, clearing brambles, brash and logs around the “Drumming Circle” and adjoining areas. We meet at 10.00 am at the top of Intake Lane and work until 1 pm with a break midway, but even help for just an hour would be appreciated. Eight members enjoyed a 12 mile cycle ride in sunny conditions to Brockfield Hall, via Scoreby, Gate Helmsley, Sand Hutton and the Breezy Knees café.
