From Garden to Kitchen. What's growing in my Seattle garden and how the harvest is used in my kitchen. Monday, January 5, 2015. Nothing like being gone over the holidays and having a mail dump of seed catalogs waiting for me when I got home! My usual suspects of John Scheepers Kitchen Garden Seeds, Baker Creek, Fedco, Territorial, Jung Seeds (who signed me up for that one? Arrived along with a new one for me this year: R.H. Shumway's. . RHShumway's is a new one I requested for this year. It's got an...

From Garden to Kitchen. What's growing in my Seattle garden and how the harvest is used in my kitchen. Monday, October 21, 2013. I can't believe these are blooming now! I planted then last fall as a birthday present to my foodie husband. I thought they would bloom in the spring; not now in the fall. There are fall blooming crocus (technically they are Colchicum. But these are true crocus. Still.a welcome surprise! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Gardening in Columbia City since 2005 with an edible focus.

From Garden to Kitchen. What's growing in my Seattle garden and how the harvest is used in my kitchen. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Where does the time go! I can't believe my last post was in January. And with the summer-like weather yesterday, I'm already thinking ahead to tomatoes. All my seeds arrived from Kitazawa, Territorial, and Fedco. And my bareroot plants from Raintree are in the ground: purple asparagus, Jewel Black raspberry, and a hedge form of serviceberry. Labels: Indigo Blue Berries. About 't...

From Garden to Kitchen. What's growing in my Seattle garden and how the harvest is used in my kitchen. Tuesday, January 7, 2014. I can't believe it's been since October that I last posted something. Yikes! Where did the time go? It's that time of year where my mailbox (and I'm sure yours) is filled with catalogs. I look forward to perusing what's being offered every year at this time and yet I'm overwhelmed. It's possible to have too many choices. How did I narrow it down? I'm tempted to try something ne...

From Garden to Kitchen. What's growing in my Seattle garden and how the harvest is used in my kitchen. Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Tonight's dinner featured several items from my garden. Pesto with freshly picked basil tossed with Sun Gold tomatoes. The look other world-ly but they're just 'Hunger Gap' kale chips. My son's current favorite! Flash fried 'Shishito' peppers sprinkled with kosher salt. Super tasty we almost gobbled them up before I remembered to take a picture. 65279; Bon apetit! Not entirely re...

Growing Food Not Lawns

Growing Food Not Lawns. Even though I live in an apartment I have started growing at least some of the food I eat, saving money, boosting my health, conserving energy and having lots of fun. The things I have grown so far, on my balcony, are tomatoes. Later on in the future I plan to keep bees(maybe), and raise chickens for the fresh in the morning eggs. When the harvest is in, i'm over at my blog ‘Family Gatherings Recipes’. Learning how to cook, preserve, cure, brew, or pickle the fruits of my labor.
