Oops...Wrong Cookie: January 2013
http://oopswrongcookie.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Where several Texas librarians write about books and stuff. Monday, January 28, 2013. Patti and Joanna Discuss the Youth Media Awards 2013. Welcome to our 2013 ALA YMA Annual Chat! If you are not entirely familiar with the YMAs, you’ll probably find this conversation odd at best. Patti and I were watching a live webcast of the awards which were held in Seattle at 8 am PST. That was 10 and 11 am for us. As usual, there were Yays! Which apparently only the committee has copies. Here’s to next year! LOVED W...

Oops...Wrong Cookie: Quintana of Charyn by Melina Marchetta
http://oopswrongcookie.blogspot.com/2013/03/quintana-of-charyn-by-melina-marchetta.html
Where several Texas librarians write about books and stuff. Monday, March 4, 2013. Quintana of Charyn by Melina Marchetta. Finnikin of the Rock. Froi of the Exiles. Let's start with the cover. I love the cover art. I love how fierce Quintana looks, love the dagger, love how it matches up to the previous books in the series. Love, love, love. They did a great job of providing a cover that is interesting and will draw people in to the series. Seriously, 'cause they go through a lot. And the greatest thing?

Oops...Wrong Cookie: Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta
http://oopswrongcookie.blogspot.com/2010/09/finnikin-of-rock-by-melina-marchetta.html
Where several Texas librarians write about books and stuff. Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta. I read this book again in anticipation of our Mock Printz. Usually I write notes as I read, for some reason though, this time I guess I was feeling lazy because I waited until the end to write anything. I'm sure we'll all suffer because of that haha. This is probably the grittiest YA fantasy I have ever read. Think The Road. For teens if The Road. Moment when the narration cut...

Where several Texas librarians write about books and stuff. Wednesday, February 8, 2012. Froi of the Exiles by Melina Marchetta. Review of Finnikin of the Rock. This is what I had to say about Finnikin. And man, does it ever apply here as well:. Except for the fact that the ARC of Froi. Clocks in at, wait for it.593 pages. Oy. I think I gained muscle mass from holding this book while I read it. So, was it good? Oh yes. It was very good. If you at all liked Finnikin. Lucien of the Monts is also featured v...

Oops...Wrong Cookie: The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker
http://oopswrongcookie.blogspot.com/2012/05/age-of-miracles-by-karen-thompson.html
Where several Texas librarians write about books and stuff. Tuesday, May 8, 2012. The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker. The story is masterfully written. It is not a shrill end of the world tale, but the tale of a girl and her family and how they are affected by a life and earth altering event. We learn about what happens to the world and what happens to the people in it as they struggle to hold onto normalcy. What would a world look like if the rotation slowed? Book Source = ARC from 4th floor.

Oops...Wrong Cookie: November 2012
http://oopswrongcookie.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Where several Texas librarians write about books and stuff. Wednesday, November 28, 2012. A Certain October by Angela Johnson. Made the Mock Printz. List Angela Johnson's 1993 novel Toning the Sweep. Remains one of my favorite YA novels. Also, if you haven't read the picture book Lily Brown's Paintings. Do so immediately. My eyes would mist when I read it for storytime. Little brother stories always get me. At a whopping 132 pages. But they can be overlooked in favor of more complex plot-driven or wo...

http://oopswrongcookie.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Where several Texas librarians write about books and stuff. Friday, September 28, 2012. Dust Girl by Sarah Zettel. I would like to start by saying how riveting this book is. I was absolutely, totally, one hundred percent riveted when reading this book (at least until I got to something that pushed me out of the story, but we'll get to that later). Comes and Callie has to learn to function in a world turned topsy turvy with magic. So what did I love? The creepy (and most excellently and hilariously named)...

Oops...Wrong Cookie: August 2012
http://oopswrongcookie.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Where several Texas librarians write about books and stuff. Friday, August 31, 2012. The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman. This book bills itself as a Da Vinci Code for Teens. I can't remember (and am too lazy to check) whether this is the official publisher tagline or whether I read that on a blog somewhere. The verdict: oh boy, is it ever. Enter secret societies from stage left and you've got the set up pretty much figured out. I liked how the author made several people equally shady so ...
