Gardening in the UP

Sunday, September 2, 2012. My plant did very well that first year and I was very impressed. It really was drought resistant and just kept getting bigger until it was killed by frost. But…… that isn’t what I like best about it. The best thing is , I haven’t had to buy this plant again. It is a extremely proficient reseeder. (spell check is telling me this isn’t a word). This is a picture of a few of this years plants. In this wider shot, you can see more starting. Till next time,. I garden in the Upper Pe...

Gardening in the UP: January 2011

http://gardeningintheup.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 15, 2011. Gardening Bloggers Bloom Day January 2011. Thank You Carol, ( May Dreams Gardens. I might not have any blooms but I think the Winter Garden is still beautiful. I visited a beautiful blog this morning from Darla at More Family and Flowers. It really gave me a case of spring fever, way to early for that, in this next of the woods… But it did inspire me to take some pictures of my garden this morning. Guess the birds won’t be drinking out of this bird bath any time soon. With thi...

Peonies, these picture were taken June 6th. Hope you enjoyed your Sunday. I enjoyed mine, after church I weeded and cut the glass. My dad always says we are not suppose to work on Sunday. My answer to him is " this isn't work , it's playing in my garden , how can it be anything else when I love it so much! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I Heart Nap Time.

Gardening in the UP: May 2011

http://gardeningintheup.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 24, 2011. A mistake made right again……. Many years ago when I was a lot. Younger I made a big mistake. My grandmother gave me a small round table . I thought it was ok , but wasn’t too impressed . I was young and foolish! I thought it would look much better painted. I was at a stage when I was painting , then antiquing everything with black. Like the current trend but not with a natural time worn look. Here it is ……………. I had covered this beautiful inlaid with paint! Love the claw feet.

Keeping your plants 'hydrated' while you fly off to fun adventures is always a bit of a conundrum. Unless you have some form of automatic watering system in place, you must turn to begging or borrowing - especially when it comes to containers. Usually its due to how they were watered. Gardening in the Zone

Gardening in the Zone. Birds in the Garden. For me, gardening and birding go hand-in-hand. One activity enriches the other. In my gardening journal, I note the migration of birds, and birds that stay near us year-round. On a cold winter day like today, I like to read my entries:. Rch 19, 2005: Outside the kitchen window, I saw the first red-winged blackbird of the season, feeding alongside some grackles. March 4, 2000: Sighted male and female bluebirds at end of property, near the bluebird house. The sec...

Taking advantage of the mild local climate, this year I decided to protect my garden from the frost. In previous years I’d let the plants fend for themselves.
