Puppie's WLS Primer: February 2011
http://mzpuppie.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 16, 2011. My 3-year anniversary of my weight-loss surgery (WLS) was Saturday. I've been working on a Surgiversary post for 4 days and have gotten nowhere with it. Having trouble stringing words together on this subject. But I don't participate in the WLS community online or in real life. If I'm living a 80% healthy lifestyle and I'm still up 20 pounds? Then I guess that's what I'm destined to weigh. : shrug: I'll take 10/12 over 24/26 every day of the week! I have an order for my 3-ye...

Puppie's WLS Primer: July 2010
http://mzpuppie.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Pills and Vitamins Post-Op. A note about the idea that you can't swallow any pills in your first post-op months:. I was swallowing meds while still in the hospital. So, obviously, swallowing meds is possible - I did it. A note about extended-release meds:. You may want to switch to the immediate-release version, multiple-dosing. At the very least, keep a close eye on your symptoms and watch for any sign that your med isn't working as well anymore. A note about birth control:.

Puppie's WLS Primer: The WLS I Had (and What I'd Get)
http://mzpuppie.blogspot.com/2010/07/what-i-had-what-id-get.html
Thursday, December 30, 2010. The WLS I Had (and What I'd Get). I had the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. I chose this surgery because my insurance covered either Lap Band or RNY, and I think the Lap Band is ridiculous and stupid. But if insurance coverage was not a consideration, I'd have gotten the Duodenal Switch - I think DS is far and away the superior surgery. Must avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen) forever. Cannot drink liquids within 30 minutes of a meal because pyloric valve is bypassed. OK to take NSAIDs - if y...

Puppie's WLS Primer: Importance of Honeymoon
http://mzpuppie.blogspot.com/2010/07/importance-of-honeymoon.html
Monday, November 1, 2010. Here's the thing. With RNY, you get a year-long honeymoon after surgery. If you're unlucky it might be closer to 9 months, if you're super-lucky it might be more like 18 months. (With DS it seems like people get an extra 6 months on their honeymoon.) But the average for RNY is one year. I cannot overemphasize the importance of that year. Going to see goal. And how disappointing would that be, to go through all this, and not get all the way to where you'd hoped for? Watermark tem...

Puppie's WLS Primer: Random Tips
http://mzpuppie.blogspot.com/2010/07/random-tips.html
Tuesday, July 27, 2010. A sugar-free breath mint after a meal helps with the post-meal-dry-mouth. It also helps me feel like the meal is "finished". By wiping out the taste of the food in my mouth and replacing it with a clean and slightly sweet taste, it makes it easier for me to feel "done" and to push away from the table. 3) If it's something that is homemade with love, or if it's something that a place is renowned for, try it! Would if you were being slow. If you experience any or all of the followin...

Puppie's WLS Primer: Why Not Lap-Band?
http://mzpuppie.blogspot.com/2010/07/which-surgery.html
Friday, December 31, 2010. I know that people are all about Lap-Band because they feel that it's less invasive and safer. But my opinion is that isn't true. Now, this is just. Opinion, and I know some lapbanders would disagree vehemently with me. But here is my opinion on the Lap-Band. The only method of weight loss with lapband is the restriction on the volume of food you can eat. The way I see it the "less invasive" method actually has a much greater chance of complication-related surgery. To be ho...

Puppie's WLS Primer: Stuff I Love(d)
http://mzpuppie.blogspot.com/2010/07/things-i-loved.html
Monday, June 28, 2010. This book is the bomb. My very favorite book on this subject. I totally lived on these bullets immediately post-op. I'd put an orange bullet in strawberry-orange-banana crystal light, I'd put a raspberry bullet in lemonade - you can get creative. Very thin, and TONS of protein packed in a very little bit of volume. You can also get your B vitamins and such from them as well. (Get the chewables and watch the label! The Lean Dessert proteins are quite yum. You will be absolutely blow...
