Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Around Thanksgiving, we were learning about the pilgrims and their voyage. We went into the hallway. We were learning about the Mayflower so we wanted to measure how long the Mayflower was. At first we didn't have any rulers, we had to experiment and see what we could figure out. We found this out by laying down in the hallway. By Mustafa and Kora. Trying to arrange ourselves into complete food chains. By Kora and Mustafa. Then we had to organize ...

Ms. Diem's Room: September 2014
http://msdiemsroom.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
About Ms. Diem. For Kids, By Kids. Saturday, September 27, 2014. In my district, Michigan History is a third grade content area. I will admit that I am not a fan of Michigan History. It's not developmentally appropriate for third graders, it's very challenging to find resources at the appropriate reading/content level, and to be honest, because of all of this, teaching Michigan History can be a bit dry. Except for the 2:00am brainstorms that spice things up a bit. Since it was a sunny afternoon in Septem...

Ms. Diem's Room: Summer Reading
http://msdiemsroom.blogspot.com/2015/07/summer-reading.html
About Ms. Diem. For Kids, By Kids. Friday, July 17, 2015. I love summer time because I actually have time to read. Or, I should actually rephrase that. I have more success making time to read in the summer than during the school year. Ironically, a good chunk of my summer reading is always school related, and this summer is no different! I have two books that are required reading for school - and while I read one of them, the second one was new to me. Mindset, by Carol Dweck. And am so intrigued by the c...

http://msdiemsroom.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
About Ms. Diem. For Kids, By Kids. Monday, March 30, 2015. We talk all the time about how important a strong foundation is. There's also a quote that expresses this in a slightly different, yet inspiring way. The goal of parenting is to "give your kids wings, and give them roots.". They have mastered many skills," she [Marnie Diem] said. Just this week, some students and I presented a workshop at the. Michigan Association for Computer Use in Learning. The teachers. I'm lucky, I've been awarded two grants...
