I am amazed (again) at the stamina and fortitude of people before telly and cars came along and ruined everything. Here's the method I am using:. 3 buckets of sharp sand in the mixer, which needs to be tilted forward a bit so the mix doesn't get stuck to the back of the drum. Turn off mixer and wait one hour.

Fear not with your 1970's council house cement pebble-dash wall fears, it will dry to become white and this is only the first coat of three anyway. It will end up a nice subtle creamy-white like the earth mortar on the left. Friday, 15 June 2012. Bread oven chimney down and out. Nice alignment. Might have to dig them out of the lawn. Toms are a bit disappointing this year. Red onions are the best we've done so far. We have about 200 of them! Squash, courgette, corn and cucumbers taking off. 140 leeks in. This year is Big Leek year - spaced well, fed well, watered well, earthed up. AUTUMN cabbages for sauerkraut! Soft fruit all done. Tons of it!

Luckily, she only comes up to my knee and was just playing. Hopefully she will have grown out of it by the time she's a quarter ton! We're babysitting "Rosalie", our friend's Dexter, which is to be her house cow in a year or two. Super cute. Apart from that, working on the render, pointing, mowing, etc, etc. Same as.

Busy mulching and covering beds for winter. Brassicas crap - caterpillars and slugs and lack of vigilance to blame. Roots good. Leeks ok but splitting in this wet weather. I've also made a natural trellis for the gite garden so there's some privacy. Chestnut posts, hazel other bits. My camera battery is shot so no piccies and I am getting a bit repetitive, so there will now be a short blog break. What we are doing is:. Stripping render off wall (inside and out), re-rendering with lime and hemp. Moving bathroom to other end of house. Re-doing kitchen and putting a wood cooker in. Planning a conservatory (proper timber frame).

The slugs are very happy that I have spent all that effort to make their breakfast, lunch and dinner for them. Cnts. Recommend polytunnel garlic - early, no rust, big cloves. Hurray, a success.
