Davelandblog: January 2015

Saturday, January 31, 2015. View From A Treehouse. This bridge is one of the reasons I do not like to be on this attraction when there are too many peeps in the Park; it makes me queasy as it sways! Yet…as you can see, some of the views are outstanding. And one visit to this attraction is never enough to catch all of the details. I took the time to experiment a bit with exposure times. The results of a very slow one:. And much faster; which do you prefer? Follow my Daveland updates on Twitter. Links to t...

Davelandblog: September 2014

Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Cruising at Disneyland, April 1958. A few colorful shots from April 1958 showing two gals enjoying a leisurely spin around Fantasyland's Motor Boat Cruise. This "B" ticket attraction was about a year old at the time these shots were taken. Note the red trimmed boat on the right is named "Alice.". Dig those yacht-club inspired outfits of the cast members! Looks like this could be a Lucy and Ethel situation! I wonder if they knew that the boat was on a track? Links to this post.

Davelandblog: October 2014

Thursday, October 30, 2014. Club 33 and New Orleans Square. I finally got the chance to see the changes to New Orleans Square for myself. The current view (above) of Club 33 from Café Orleans vs. the previous view (below). While it's all a matter of personal taste, this particular blogger is really not crazy about this version. One of the worst offenses is this ostentatious entrance to Club 33. What was once a not-so-secret secret that casually blended into the background is not visible to all who walk by.

Thursday, July 31, 2014. 59 Years Ago Yesterday: Campfire Girls. After a few heavy posts, I'll go a bit lighter today with an image from the USC Digital Library. Featuring the Los Angeles Area Camp Fire Girls from Alhambra District, July 30, 1955. The publicity caption reads:. Have to zoom in for a closer look at the balloon, which features what appears to be a seal, balancing something on his nose. It almost looks like the Adventureland logo seen on The Wonderful World of Disney. Posted by Dave DeCaro.

Davelandblog: Snow White Circa 1974
http://davelandblog.blogspot.com/2015/08/snow-white-circa-1974.html
Tuesday, August 04, 2015. Snow White Circa 1974. A batch of negatives from 1974 yielded two shots of the loading area for the Snow White's Adventures attraction at Disneyland. A great opportunity to see the clothing of a 1970s cast member as well as see the attraction vehicles; unfortunately not a great view of the mural at left! One of the best shots of this group is one of the Carrousel which shows the reflection of Snow White the front of her attraction:. Follow my Daveland updates on Twitter. Hey Dav...

Friday, May 29, 2015. 60th Anniversary Trip, Pt. 13. I sure miss the historic Carnation Plaza Gardens, but I have to admit that Fantasy Faire was done beautifully. At night, it looks even more magical. The interior of the Royal Theatre:. The animatronic was working beautifully. Wanted posters for Flynn Rider from "Tangled.". And then I moved over to the Castle to enjoy the gorgeous lighting. The ostentatious 60th Anniversary decor looks better at night. Pay attention, you hear? The animated "Make it pink!

Davelandblog: Vintage Cross Roads of the World

Wednesday, August 05, 2015. Vintage Cross Roads of the World. This 1940s image shows the Cross Roads of the World center off of Sunset Boulevard. Zooming in you can see the office of Don Martin School of Radio Arts and a Medical Building. Wonder what field of Medicine? A contemporary shot of the same area. The structures survived (and still look damn good! But the tree in front of the Medical Building did not. More vintage Hollywood at my main website. Follow my Daveland updates on Twitter. Davelandblog: February 2015
http://davelandblog.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. I am digging this 1961 black and white image of the Disneyland News Stand near the entrance tunnel into the Park. I secretly hoped that the gentleman in the hat was Walt, but upon closer examination, I don't believe so. Although Walt wore hats like that, the face and body seem a bit off. Back to our original image, here's the souvenir map on display that guests could buy and hang on their wall at home:. Another image from my collection circa July 1960 provides a color image:.

Thursday, April 30, 2015. The Royal Street Treatment: Hotel Monteleone. Once I was able to escape the Conference hotel, I moved down the street to experience the legendary Hotel Monteleone on Royal Street. I was not disappointed by this New Orleans classic that was founded in 1886. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the lobby was inviting. The hotel's famous grandfather clock still works! The room was decorated in a style that honored the classic nature of the hotel without being stuffy. Last one ...

Davelandblog: August 2015
http://davelandblog.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 31, 2015. I have become pretty jaded about many vintage Disneyland shots. It has to be a really cool one to get my attention any more. This November 1964 image reached out and grabbed me by the throat. This is definitely the best closeup Skull Rock Cove shot I have in my collection. I don't believe it was shot from the Skyway, but rather from the Pirate Ship itself. Here's a previously posted shot from March 1965 giving a better overall view of the area. Posted by Dave DeCaro. This vintage...
