Social Sculpture: December 2013
http://graham-hay.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Artist Graham Hay thoughts on ceramics, art, The Arts, making, 3D printing, social organisation, whatever. Thursday, December 12, 2013. Play off: 3D printers vs 3D Doodlers. Using new technology is never a simple "or" choice. While hacking a 3D plastic printer to enable it to print clay. I was alerted to the WobbleWorks 3d Doodler project on Kickstart. It seemed relevant, so I and 26,455 others promised over $2m to try to get the project off the ground. On 25 March 2013 the project went live. At this ear...
Social Sculpture: It's A FAKE
http://graham-hay.blogspot.com/2015/05/its-fake.html
Artist Graham Hay thoughts on ceramics, art, The Arts, making, 3D printing, social organisation, whatever. Tuesday, May 12, 2015. The digital disruption of the arts currently underway has a couple of unanticipated consequences, that I am just starting to tease out. In discussions with Mark: from Harvison Gallery. And Dirk: a GIS. Expert, it has become clear that institutional changes in the arts will mean we, as artists may need to change how we do some things. I suppose now it will be up to artists to c...

Artist Graham Hay thoughts on ceramics, art, The Arts, making, 3D printing, social organisation, whatever. Sunday, August 17, 2014. Dublin Biennial vs Florence Biennale score: 7 : 5. In the second Dublin Biennial I was one of over 50 artists from 20 countries, compared to 450 artists from over 50 countries in the humongous 2013 Florence Biennale. Dublin: 1, Florence: 0. Italy in December 2013 was bitterly cold and damp. Dublin: 2, Florence: 0. Dublin: 3, Florence: 0. The Florence Biennale organisers clai...
Social Sculpture: 3D Printing
http://graham-hay.blogspot.com/2010/09/3d-scanning-and-3d-printing.html?spref=tw
Artist Graham Hay thoughts on ceramics, art, The Arts, making, 3D printing, social organisation, whatever. Saturday, September 11, 2010. I was researching a 2008 ABC TV program about 3D printing for two Italian ceramic artists, and found some really interesting things about 3D printing:. Then I've thought up with a few variations for the ceramics profession. These days, with a computer and a 3D printer, there is the technology to produce any "plastic" 3D object! Don't have the US$15,000 for the printer?

Porcelain, agateware, wheel thrown ceramics. Shades of grey (alas not fifty! New work – landscape inspired series →. Yes, yes, yes! November 17, 2014. I’m a happy woman, this mug monday morning. Fired my kiln this weekend with glaze tests and some practice mugs and had a few problems with the firing due to ancient elements in the kiln. So, had low expectations this morning when I opened it and was pleasantly surprised. View all posts by Stephanie Hammill →. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. You are ...

Porcelain, agateware, wheel thrown ceramics. Newer posts →. Home made sink clay trap. November 4, 2014. The one thing I’ve always missed in my studio is an effective way of dealing with all that gloopy clay water. Cue drum roll….a cheap and very easy to make under sink clay trap. Its basically two linked buckets within another container. The idea is that the water drains into the first (left hand) bucket and then slowly drains into the next bucket and then out into the larger container. October 24, 2014.

Porcelain, agateware, wheel thrown ceramics. New Work – Landscape Series. New photographs of work →. April 2, 2015. I’m so bad at social media. I’ve not disappeared, just been busy in my studio, finessing my throwing, moving things around and trying to set up a proper website. I’ve been experimenting with southern ice porcelain teacups and one of these days might have a photo to prove that I got a handle on without it cracking. Working on some quirky vases…. And making lots and lots of plates and bowls.

Porcelain, agateware, wheel thrown ceramics. Home made sink clay trap. Yes, yes, yes! Shades of grey (alas not fifty! November 10, 2014. Rutile blues have to be the most frustrating glaze ever – (those are the peachy looking ones). I think I am on the right path but will spend next week playing with slip (with bits in) in an attempt to provoke a reaction between the clay body and the glaze. Keep your fingers crossed. Artist Graham Hay thoughts on ceramics, art, The Arts, making, 3D printing, social organisation, whatever. Saturday, May 16, 2015. Looking back I have fond childhood memories of making things in clay. There is a lot of talk about cutbacks in school and art programs in 2015, so I thought. I can't fix the problem, but maybe I can help address the gaps appearing:. So, for 2015 I'm offering a free, one day workshop. It's not much, but I'll try it for the year and see how it goes. Contact details on my website.

Graham Hicks musical history goes back to the early 1960's. Susan and the Shivering Sands. Formed in 1964 was my first band, in which I played drums. A short period after we disbanded, I joined Lynne and the Travellers. Sadly I haven't been able to locate any photographs of this band. Lynne left the band in May 1965, so we disbanded. A month later I formed another band, Five Shades of Black. Who only played a few gigs before I formed the League of Gentlemen. The 1970's saw my band Hairy Magpie. During my...
