Windmill Farm Nature Reserve. Sunday, 5 August 2012. There was a noticeable influx of the large hoverfly Helophilus trivittatu. S evident at the farm yesterday. I counted 30 and they far outnumbered the resident Helophilus pendulus. These are almost certainly immigramts from the Continent. They are larger and paler than pendulus. And their face is entirely yellow. Pendulus. Have a dark stripe down the centre of the face. Friday, 3 August 2012. Have you seen Erica? Cornish Heath (Erica vagans).

An account of my days at Windmill Farm. Sunday, 21 July 2013. This weather continues to be amazing for Dragonflies at the Farm. We have hundreds of Keeled Skimmers, up to 20 RVDs and many Golden Ringed (as well as good numbers of our locals). I also found a Southern Hawker this weekend. An account of my days at Windmill Farm. Monday, 26 August 2013. After a 3 week sabbatical (due to holiday) from the Farm I spent 4 hours down there this morning. It was lovely down there this morning. A lot of birds around - in particular hurindines are gathering for there trip south - a flock of over a 100 was buzzing about all morning (mixture of Swallow, Sand and House Martins). Records suggest that only once in fifty years is someone mad enough to hike up to the cowberry and scrabble about (on hands and knees) to find this distinctive micromoth larva. Out and about studying Yorkshire wildlife. Saturday, 25 February 2012. White Satin Moth stowaways. This little feller is an over-wintering caterpillar of the White Satin Moth. I found a couple of these amongst a batch of braconid parasitoid pupal cases collected from the poplar trees in Queen's Gardens, Hull. I have never seen the adult of this species even though it seems to be expanding its range across the county. I am grateful to Dean's Daily Diary for alerting me to the fact that Colt's-foot.
