Great Sand Dunes Perspective Picture - by Steve Garufi

http://www.greatsanddunes.net/picture.htm

Great Sand Dunes National Park. I thought this picture of the Great Sand Dunes might give a reasonable idea of just how large this sandy area is. While standing at High Dune. The second highest dune in the park), I photographed this one guy who was exploring the dune below. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy, but I trust this picture will give some inspiration to Colorado dune lovers throughout the world!

Rainbow Falls Near Manitou Springs, Colorado

http://www.manitoucafe.com/rainbow-falls.htm

Rainbow Falls . Beneath The Highway. Rainbow Falls is such an amazing place. Fountain Creek takes a significant drop of maybe 50 to 60 feet on the west end of Manitou Springs (outside of Manitou's city limit). It can be accessed off of Serpentine Road at the one and only hard switchback. I snapped this photo of Rainbow Falls while hiking to it on a summer day. Steve (June 12, 2006). Miramont Castle

http://www.manitoucafe.com/miramont-castle.htm

I will likely not do a good job in describing the many highlights of the Miramont Castle in Manitou Springs, but I'll give it a try. On top of being a historic building with a very interesting stories behind the various ways that it functioned in the community, Miramont Castle current acts as a museum that contains much documentation, photos and artifacts of Manitou Springs' history. There is also a really beautiful flower garden. Miramont Castle is located just off of Ruxton Avenue.

The Manitou Incline In Manitou Springs, Colorado (Photo)

http://www.manitoucafe.com/manitou-incline.htm

While driving westbound on Manitou Avenue I snapped this photo of the Manitou Incline. That long and straight vertical line that goes up the mountain. Formerly used as an incline for tourists to enjoy the views of the mountains and scenery looking out east, the business closed down in the early 1990's and the wooden ties have remained. It has become a fairly popular spot for hikers to enjoy, and with the approximate 20% to 25% grade for 0.9 miles, it is quite a workout! Steve (July 7, 2006).

The Infamous Powerlines In Manitou Springs, Colorado

http://www.manitoucafe.com/powerlines.htm

Manitou's Infamous Overhead Powerlines. If you tend to enjoy photographing the mountain views from inside the town of Manitou Springs much, you have probably noticed just how awful some of the overhead powerlines are in town. Many small and underfunded towns such as Manitou Springs have these obstructive eyesores that take away from the enjoyability of the views. Yet, there is hope! Steve (June 15, 2006). Photo of Pikes Peak

http://www.manitoucafe.com/pikes-peak.htm

I have many photos of Pikes Peak. And I must admit I don't think this is the greatest one. I was going through old pictures from my adventures from the Colorado Adopt A Highway program, in which I organized workcrews to pick-up litter along the two mile stretch of Highway 24 known as the Manitou Bypass. During one of our outings. I snapped this photo of Pikes Peak with the Manitou Incline. Steve (August 2, 2006). Other Colorado Links: ColoradoGuy.com.

2002 Winter Olympics Torch In Manitou Springs, Colorado

http://www.manitoucafe.com/olympic-torch.htm

2002 Winter Olympics Torch In Manitou. In February 2002, the community of Manitou Springs had the honor of having the Olympic Torch come through its town. I distinctly remember it as a fairly cold day, but the town was buzzing with so many people. The Manitou schools wisely allowed students of all ages to watch the festivities as selected people ran along Manitou Avenue holding the Olympic Torch. Other Colorado Links: ColoradoGuy.com.
