Growing Our Own: May 2011
http://growingourown.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 31 May 2011. There we go, one fruit cage fully erected and installed! We got it all built on Sunday afternoon with a little help from my Dad who popped over to help. Once we'd lugged all the poles and netting up to the plot (note to self, need a bigger car! It was surprisingly simple to put up. First we laid out the top of the frame on the ground to allow us to mark where the uprights needed to go. Last but not least was the roof. This again looked like it might be fiddly but once we'd worke...
Growing Our Own: How things have grown...

Friday, 15 July 2011. How things have grown. The best thing about the break was seeing how much things grew while we were away, perhaps the most impressive progress was the sweetcorn which is now looking really healthy and we should be seeing the cobs form soon we're hoping. The parsnips too are thriving. Having seen Jono over at Real Men Sow. The red onions are looking good too, cant wait till they are ready to harvest as they're lovely in salads and sarnies. The fennel seeds we planted a few weeks ago ...

Tuesday, 23 July 2013. Every man needs a shed. The single most annoying thing about living in the house we do is the fact that out garage isn't directly next to the house, instead it's in a block at the far end of the row of houses. Most irritating about this is the fact that all our gardening equipment and tools are therefore just that little bit too far away to be truly handy. The roof went on last which was the moment of truth with regards how flat and square the. Structure was and it soon became appa...
Growing Our Own: June 2010

Friday, 4 June 2010. A picture challenge response and a query. A couple of weeks ago I was asked by Jo from 'The Good Life'. To take part in a picture challenge. The idea is to go to where your pictures are stored on your computer, find the eighth folder and pick the eighth picture inside it. Then post it on your blog along with a description of what it is and where it was taken. So here we go. On another note, has anyone else tried growing Pak Choi? Has anyone got any personal experience with them?
Growing Our Own: May 2009
http://growingourown.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 26 May 2009. After what seems to have been a few weeks of continual rain since the greenhouse arrived we finally got three days of glorious sun over the bank holiday giving us the perfect chance to put our building skills to the test. Then we filled the trench with concrete and levelled it all off with the aid of a long plank of wood and a spirit level. Written down like that it sounds like a simple job but it actually took an age as mixing concrete by hand is small wheelbarrow loads isn't a...

Thursday, 30 June 2011. Vintage Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass By Lewis Carroll. A strange thing about these world famous stories for children is that the author was really a great mathematician at Oxford. His real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Once read, no one can ever forget the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the Queen of Hearts, the Caterpillar and all the other characters that came from the fertile mind of the friend of these girls. Growing Our Love
Saturday, December 15, 2012. One of the ways that adoption creates ripples is by pointing to the undeniable bridge that love makes between a family and a child without a blood connection. Allegiance and loyalty to one's own family, traditionally defined by blood line and marriage, can be seen as attacked here. This is particularly true when this loyalty has been called upon to make repairs to relationships or to "hold the family together." If, instead of foregiveness, I. I intentionally left out the "whe...
