Gumleaf Tea

Tuesday, August 18, 2015. Cue the Led Zeppelin Song . . . At last the temporary stairs with the uneven spacings and depths and slightly rickety treads have been retired. Steel stringers and hardwood treads all to code. Used the timber salvaged from the St Agnes creek bridge as the first step. Not quite the 'Stairway to Heaven', but close enough. Friday, July 10, 2015. Here is our outdoor sink all abandoned and forlorn. No dishrack, no more tied-down pot scrubbers to stop the Butcher Bird from nicking them.

Gumleaf Tea: March 2015

http://www.gumleaftea.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Carcases assembled and in position waiting leveling and fixing to walls. Cabinets were easy-peasy, however there was some head scratching fitting the drawer runners. Sunday, March 15, 2015. What once was a doofa-kitchen,. Because of this. . . Now looks like this . . . Thursday, March 5, 2015. I can't believe that it has been one whole week since our beautiful, sweet, stubborn Gidgee left us. The house seems much larger now, empty and quiet. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Gumleaf Tea: October 2014

http://www.gumleaftea.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 17, 2014. First there was Commando Style! Great on a warm summers afternoon but quickly lost it's appeal when the chilly winds of winter arrived. Next was a hastily erected tin lean-to that I was too ashamed to photograph and post. Next, the only frameless glass shower screen within, oh I dunno, bloody miles! Followed by camping shower tent in the laundry. And NOW. . . That's right a DOOR! You read all this way down through the trivia for an image of a door! I shall however, be redeemed.

Gumleaf Tea: December 2013

http://www.gumleaftea.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 20, 2013. Well, our promise has been kept. Furniture was hauled out of the shed and 2 years accumulation of dirt, leaves, rodent and gecko poo was scrubbed off. Ya gotta love solid timber furniture that can stand this sort of treatment with a final blast off with the hose. Dried in the sun, and with the assistance of 'Bobby' and his fork tines, moved up to await entry on the front verandah. On Friday 29th November, yep that's right November. Our temporary kitchen and dining area. Still l...

Gumleaf Tea: Civilisation Obtained !!!

http://www.gumleaftea.blogspot.com/2015/07/civilisation-obtained.html

Friday, July 10, 2015. Here is our outdoor sink all abandoned and forlorn. No dishrack, no more tied-down pot scrubbers to stop the Butcher Bird from nicking them. No more moths raining down on a summer night. No more frantic washing with one eye on the approaching storm. Here is the side burner on the BBQ and trusty kettle, all abandoned and forlorn. No more boiling innumerable kettles to get hot water. Here is our trusty galvanised bucket and saucepan, all abandoned and forlorn. Come out, ever).

Vintajia Adornments: Time Slips Away . . .

http://vintajia.blogspot.com/2015/01/time-slips-away.html

Time Slips Away . . . The New Year has come winging in from the Universe, the hunting tip on Time's Arrow, and we all begin the one directional journey into 2015. And true to it's nature time has slipped away and it is the end of January. The weather has been hot, hot, hot, peppered with very enthusiastic thunderstorms. Not a lot of creativity happens when the temperature and humidity insidiously sucks any enthusiasm that can be mustered, totally away. I long for cool. Well that wasn't so hard, mind you ...

Vintajia Adornments: November 2009

http://vintajia.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

I was uncertain about buying these red stoned metal beads - maybe too oriental? The more I looked the more I realised that they had a definite renaissance air to them something that may have come from 16th century Venice. Perhaps they graced the ears of the fair Portia as she defends Antonio against Shylock's insistance of a pound of flesh for his debt. Aged brass beads with blood red glass cabuchons, matt green seed beads and Vintaj brass. Bronze, silver-blue and dusty- mauve seed beads. Some rather nic...

Thoughts on the First Sale. You work in a creative field, especially something so personal as making jewellery, every piece has a part of your heart in it, some more so than others. Friends and family keep saying "you should sell your jewellery", however to put your creation out into the public domain is sometimes like standing naked in the street. Will someone like it, will everyone hate it, are your friends and family wrong and only being kind? And so my very first sale - Fly by Night is off to France!

How cute are these! I know there are lots of folks out there that love owls, so thought I'd share these, even though they are not owls but Tawny Frogmouth. The Best Laid Plans. . . . It would appear that all the diversion and distraction stars have aligned against me the last few weeks. This is a little peek at a wallaby joey snug in this warm pouch waiting collection by his new mum. Lorelei has a great giveaway on her blog to celebrate the forthcoming book Enchanted Adornments by.

Vintajia Adornments: S'Mores

http://vintajia.blogspot.com/2014/09/smores.html

These caused me no end of grief and a whole day to photograph. Camera didn't know which bit to focus on. I'm sure it was glad to see the back of em. While trying to avoid catching the 'winter wog' DH bought back with him from Brisbane. And trying to look sympathetic to his hacking and snuffling and providing pillow fluffing and throat soothing drinks(it was, after all man-flu) made these. . . Oh yes, it did say that didn't it. Bad Greer! Write out 100 times 'I must fully read tutorials. Ive never tried e...

Use What You Have #2 and #3. Made these as Christmas gifts. And made this for myself to match the bracelet. This is some of the mob of. Corellas that visit us every few days. Lots of flying, swooping, squabbling and eating too! A bit of seed and we have free entertainment with breakfast. They also have the most joyous calls. Using What You Have. We need beads and treasures so that other creations can be born. We have our stash to which we constantly add. I continued to clean and buried under my 'vertical...

Snow slowly melts and from the bare earth comes the fresh green of new life. Vintaj bronze filigree, and components, olivine green vintage glass stone, wooden rondells, swarovski crystal. Assembled brass components with various patinas. Vintaj brass chain, findings and filigree bead. Glass beads and czech fire polished crystal. Lights of the Meadow. Today I saw the dragon-fly. Vintajia Adornments: Makies and other Stuff

http://vintajia.blogspot.com/2015/07/makies-and-other-stuff.html

Makies and other Stuff. All the house plumbing stuff is finally finished (apart from the 2 new water tanks). Hot running water at last! Oh yes - civilization! Ashes of Imperfect Flight. Black kyanite fan, more distressed tinned solder and natural linen. Gone over the ditch to live in the 'Shakey Isles'. Brought about by helping DH clean out an old Landcruiser ute that has sat quietly rusting for more than 10 years, and found a length of slotted metal. I can use this I thought . . . Variation on a theme.

I love peeking into other artist's studios. Some range from coffee tables to beautiful custom made areas with a place for everything and everything in it's place. So here are some shots of my mess errrr work area. This is storage and includes a little kiln (thinking bronzclay) my trusty toner photocopier. (Its so old the serial number is in roman numerals), various draws of beads and bits'n'bobs. I think their spirits are still there, wild things keep popping into my design ideas. The water is aqua from ...

Australian cross stitch designs - where stitching and nature come together. Monday, 27 July 2015. A little while back I posted about a new skill I was learning - quilting and promised to share photos of my finished project. It is only just now that I realise that I forgot to take photos of the progress of the quilt construction so you will just have to bear with me while I explain the process and use the image below to refer to. Links to this post. Thursday, 2 July 2015. This little fellow simply takes y...

GUM LEAVES

Grandchildren, Gardening, Genealogy. Sitting at the computer this morning, the heat can be felt through closed blinds and shutters. Many of the cards decorating the house show scenes of snow and sleds, holly and hellebores. Today I will be celebrating with our family. The temperature is expected to reach 35C/95F. We will be enjoying cold meals and we will be slowing down. May I wish you, dear blog friends, a very happy Christmas, with peace, comfort and joy. Friday - Celtic night. Saturday - an afternoon...
