Hadrian's Wall Path 2008: Day 4 - Wall to Burnhead (Haltwhistle)
http://hadrianswall08.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-4-wall-to-burnhead-haltwhistle.html
Hadrian's Wall Path 2008. Day 4 - Wall to Burnhead (Haltwhistle). 175 miles, 10 hours. We left the hotel at 9:00, returning to the route just outside the village of Wall. It was a lovely day, warm and sunny, just what we needed on this longer section. We had been looking forward to this day as it also provided the opportunity to visit the forts of Chesters and Housesteads. We crossed the River North Tyne at Chollerford bridge and headed to Chesters fort. It has such a peaceful location by the river it is...
Hadrian's Wall Path 2008: Day 2 - Newcastle to Heddon on the Wall
http://hadrianswall08.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-2-newcastle-to-heddon-on-wall.html
Hadrian's Wall Path 2008. Day 2 - Newcastle to Heddon on the Wall. 125 miles, 5 3/4 hours. We returned to the river side at 10:00 to resume our walk. The swing bridge was open as we arrived but nothing was passing through. The whole area was surprisingly quiet, even on the path we were only passed by a few people jogging and cycling. Beyond Elswick the route left the riverside promenade to head inland to join a disused railway line towards Newburn. Much of the route was secluded from surrounding buil...
Hadrian's Wall Path 2008: Day 1 - Wallsend to Newcastle
http://hadrianswall08.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-1-wallsend-to-newcastle.html
Hadrian's Wall Path 2008. Day 1 - Wallsend to Newcastle. 6 miles, 2 1/2 hours. We had a good four hour train journey up from Suffolk and arrived to a rather damp and drizzly Newcastle just after 10:00am. After dropping off our bags at the hotel we headed into the city centre for some lunch. By the time we had finished our lunch the rain had stopped and so we decided to make a start to the walk by catching the metro out to Wallsend and walking back into town. Segedunum ( Strong fort. The route was not at ...
Hadrian's Wall Path 2008: Day 7 - Carlisle to Bowness on Solway
http://hadrianswall08.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-7-carlisle-to-bowness-on-solway.html
Hadrian's Wall Path 2008. Day 7 - Carlisle to Bowness on Solway. 155 miles, 7 1/2 hours. After picking up some food for lunch in town we headed down to the river to rejoin the path at about 9:30. The first couple of miles out of Carlisle follow the River Eden, initially past an industrial area where pylons and buildings intruded on the views. This was short lasting as the path soon headed into trees, following along the top of the steep riverbank. We had planned to stop for our packed lunch near Drumburg...

Northumberland Inn Way 2008: Day 6 - Cragside House and Gardens
http://northumberlandinnway.blogspot.com/2008/10/day-6-cragside-house-and-gardens.html
Northumberland Inn Way 2008. 94 Miles, 48 Pubs. Day 6 - Cragside House and Gardens. We decided to take another day off walking the route. We had originally thought we would visit Cragside House and Gardens in Rothbury at the end of the walk, but after realising it is closed on Mondays we had to change our plan. Cragside was originally built as a holiday home and later extended to become his main residence. It was the first house to be powered by electricity, generated using water power. After lunch we co...

Another Suffolk Blog: September 2008
http://anothersuffolkblog.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 27, 2008. Orford - Castle and Ness. For a change this is a post about somewhere in Suffolk on my Suffolk Blog. Last weekend we took advantage of the great weather that's finally arrived and went for a day out to Orford. Here we were able to use our memberships in both the National Trust and English Heritage all in one day. We started out by going to the displays about the history of the area which is inside one of the old military buildings. The second trail we followed took us out to...

Another Suffolk Blog: October 2008
http://anothersuffolkblog.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 20, 2008. With the perfect autumn weather we took a trip at the weekend to visit another nearby National Trust site - Anglesey Abbey near to Cambridge. Although the house looked lovely, we decided to miss this out today. With our NT membership we find that we tend to be more relaxed about visiting places and don't feel we have to rush and try to fit everything in. Lots of leaves on the ground too which were great to rustle through. A final shot which is now on the background of my computer.

Yorkshire Dales Inn Way 2008. 76 Miles, 26 Pubs. Day 5 - West Burton to Kettlewell. 145 miles, 7 3/4 hours (including pub visits). We left West Burton at 9:45 on another bright sunny morning. The school children were sat out on the green for their lesson as we passed up the road. We followed the road along the pretty wooded Walden valley, gradually gaining height above the beck. We forded the stream of Fleemis Gill as it dropped into a little ravine. 18Thwaite Arms, Horsehouse. This road section continue...

Another bright sunny day as we set off from Reeth at 9:45am. We left the village passing by the church and headed through fields towards Grinton, following the route of the Coast to Coast path. We enjoyed our final views of the River Swale as we crossed the bridge into the village of Grinton. 14Bridge Inn, Grinton. As we left the moor behind we crossed...

Yorkshire Dales Inn Way 2008. 76 Miles, 26 Pubs. Day 6 - Kettlewell to Grassington. 135 miles, 7 3/4 hours (including pub visits). We left Kettlewell at 10:15 and headed out of the village climbing steeply up a track on to Conistone Moor. The path took on a more gradual ascent as it passed through a series of fields. This was a very quiet section, with only a few grazing sheep to be seen. We skirted above The Dib, a dry limestone valley which drops steeply down to Conistone. We followed Hebden Beck, flow...

Saturday, October 13, 2007. A Saturday afternoon project. Take one corner of a garden. Add in two logs. Position birthday presents of:. 1 x Tin bath. 1 x Watering can. 1 x Copper pipe. 1 x Bag of stones. 1 x Solar powered pump. Tuesday, October 09, 2007. As the weather was reasonable and we had spent the weekend indoors completing our Inn Way report (yes it's finished! Pembrokeshire Coast Path 2007: Day 4 - Trefin to St Davids
http://pembrokeshirecoastpath.blogspot.com/2008/02/day-4-trefin-to-st-davids.html
Pembrokeshire Coast Path 2007. Day 4 - Trefin to St Davids. Saturday 7th July 2007. 15 miles, 8 hours. It was another bright sunny day, and with less distance to cover it meant that we could take our time and enjoy it to the full. We left our B&B at about 9.45 taking the footpath across the fields to rejoin the coast path at the lower end of Trefin. There were bright clear views back to the North. The path follows a well maintained track along the cliff top, passing Porth Egr and Traeth Llyfn. The Penlle...

I planned to drive up to Bowness-on-Solway the night before the walk, and use a baggage transfer service. I chose to use Walkers Baggage service as they can transport a single bag ( http:/ www.walkersbags.co.uk/. All I need now is to put one foot in front of the other and let my mind wander free.
