RW's Farrier F82R : Transom Bracket
http://rwf82raus.blogspot.com/2010/04/transom-bracket.html
Just a little blog to pass on some info during the build of my Farrier F82R in Australia. Saturday, April 10, 2010. Unfortunately work has been a bit slow on the boat.frustrating. Work and other bits and pieces have taken a lot of my spare time. At least I have been able to do a few things. After much debate I decided that since I was making the daggerboard rudder and box that I would also alter the transom to suit. So I made the transom support bracket and cut a big hole in the cockpit floor.

RW's Farrier F82R : June 2009

Just a little blog to pass on some info during the build of my Farrier F82R in Australia. Monday, June 29, 2009. Dagger Board Rudder Update. I have just started working on the rudder. My main concern was making sure that i got a profile that was true. When you have a high performance boat minor irregularities will tend to create problems at speed. With that in mind i did a bit of research and found a person in Melbourne that can cut foam with a hot wire CNC cutter. Once i had all 7 pieces down the next t...

RW's Farrier F82R : March 2015
http://rwf82raus.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Just a little blog to pass on some info during the build of my Farrier F82R in Australia. Friday, March 13, 2015. Water has been added. Finally the day has come to launch. It has been a while but well worth it. We launched at Martha Cove in Melbourne with family and friends around to witness the event. I have decided to call the boat "Shockwave". Launch was Feb 28th and it was decided that the 1st race would be the next weekend in the Marlay Point Overnight Race in Gippsland Lakes. Links to this post.

RW's Farrier F82R : February 2009
http://rwf82raus.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Just a little blog to pass on some info during the build of my Farrier F82R in Australia. Sunday, February 22, 2009. I was going to make a carbon fibre pole, but after much deliberation, I have decided to go with aluminium. With a bearing at the both ends of the tube the pole is a neat sliding fit. This is the set up for retaining the bow pole. Instead of nuts I will get a couple of 12mm wing nuts. Links to this post. Sunday, February 1, 2009. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Andrew's F-22 Trivita: July 2011

Sunday, July 31, 2011. The next step, though straight forward, was one of those "think twice, cut once" moments - cutting a large hole in the keel. This is how the cut edge of the plank join looked. I think that cutting one side with the knife and filling with the Zip-Lock bags worked well. This is the set-up I had to make leveling the case easy and repeatable. A simple turn of the screws to raise or lower each corner. Here the cabin bulkhead has been placed (bunk just sitting there). After final placeme...

Andrew's F-22 Trivita: August
http://ballard-f22.blogspot.com/2011/08/august.html
Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Not being able to lift the hull very far I had to crawl along underneath to remove the screws. Some areas behind the deck and near the keel were a real challenge. I hadn't been planing on saving most of the battens, so it was an easy choice to start cutting them up when it became easier to do it that way. Its quite the archeological dig under the forms. Somehow I think the outer hull is more impressive, even at this rough stage, than the interior. It looks like a boat! And wal...

Wednesday, June 30, 2010. When the centerboard came out of the bag, each side was covered in a single layer of 45/45 and the layers of UD. Along the trailing edge, the layers meet on the solid epoxy that I originally placed in the routed groove before shaping. Hope this makes sense. See my effort at. For a little more description. Likely less of a potential problem this time because there's only a single layer.). I like the look of the carbon! Once it's covered up to the breather layer, it can easily be ...

Andrew's F-22 Trivita: June
http://ballard-f22.blogspot.com/2011/06/june.html
Thursday, June 30, 2011. Obviously I've precut all my layers of material for each of the vacuum bag projects. This time I went a step further and pre-sealed one edge of the vacuum film. My concern was how I was going to need to be climbing in and out with a very narrow walk way and wet glass/epoxy – any epoxy on the vacuum tape is a show stopper. Pulled to the side and ready to begin. Removing the disposables. A picture that can't really capture the satisfaction of another good looking laminate. I starte...
