But after making the Peach Grilled Cheese twice, I was out of peaches, so I went searching the internets for ideas to use up the rest of the brie, mozzarella, and sourdough bread. Which brings us to the sandwich behind Door #2—Avocado and Tomato Grilled Cheese with Mozzarella and Brie. I actually liked this one better! Grilled Cheese, Two Ways. Fresh tomato or sundried tomatoes.

This and That: New Zealand trip, day 1: It begins

http://hercheyk.blogspot.com/2011/09/new-zealand-trip-day-1-it-begins.html

Friday, September 30, 2011. New Zealand trip, day 1: It begins. Friday, September 30. So I called American, got transferred halfway through, only to learn that LAX-AUK is not delayed (yay! On Flight #1, I was excited about getting some orange juice, but they didn't give us drinks. Granted, it's only 35 minutes long, but usually they manage to throw drinks at us and give us about 49 seconds to chug them. I feel jipped. That's just mean. Just sayin'. Now, for some important life questions:. New Zealand tri...

This and That: Summer Squash Refrigerator Pickles

http://hercheyk.blogspot.com/2015/06/summer-squash-refrigerator-pickles.html

Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Summer Squash Refrigerator Pickles. 8216;Tis the season for gardens bursting with zucchini and yellow squash! Which means ‘tis also the season for those with gardens to become especially earnest in sharing squash with their friends and neighbors. Which means that, whether we’re growing them ourselves or receiving them from a friend, ‘tis the season to find many ways to prepare squash beyond zucchini bread and simple sautés. So last week I tried my hand at pickling some squash!

This and That: The Most West Texas Meal Ever

http://hercheyk.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-most-west-texas-meal-ever.html

Saturday, June 13, 2015. The Most West Texas Meal Ever. Today I'm thrilled to introduce a guest post from. My second older brother (you get to figure out what that means). There are two recipes below, with results at the end of the post. You may remember Josh from my trip to visit him in New Zealand. From his blog To Insanity and Beyond. At various points in my life, I’ve held the following jobs:. Working at a chicken factory. Doing the grunt work that no one else wanted on a construction site. The yucca...

This and That: Peach Salsa with Spiced Black Beans and Corn

http://hercheyk.blogspot.com/2015/07/peach-salsa-with-spiced-black-beans-and.html

Monday, July 13, 2015. Peach Salsa with Spiced Black Beans and Corn. One of my goals for our trip to the festival was to get some peach salsa. I'd made it once before. Liked it, so I was interested in trying someone else's version. Unfortunately, though, by the time we got there and ate lunch (and ice cream) and got serious about browsing the manymany vendor booths, the jarred peach salsa was sold out everywhere we looked and asked. But no worries! If you wanted to bulk this up or make it stretch to more...

Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Fall- Winter Catch Up. Well, I've totally neglected this blog and have a lot to catch up on. I considered ditching the whole thing, but I really like having a place where I can look back and remember trips, events, etc. So this post is just a photo dump from fall and winter '14-15. Titus helping with a t-shirt rag quilt that I made for a friend's son. Quilt pieces laid out. Titus at Mom's house. Christmas at Mom's house. New washer and dryer- happy 13th anniversary to us!

Brokaw Tidbits: August 2013

http://brokawtidbits.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Guadalupe River State Park. Last week, Josh and I took off 3 days and headed down to the Guadalupe River. We like to avoid the weekend crowds, and this turned out to be a great trip! We stayed at Guadalupe River State Park at the perfect little campsite- #45. We tried out a new portable air conditioner for our tent and even used air mattresses for the first time. I think we're getting old! Then we rested in our cool tent until around 7:30pm when we decided to cook dinner. On our...

Brokaw Tidbits: October 2014

http://brokawtidbits.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 21, 2014. We headed to Lost Maples State Natural Area for fall break this year. We spent the first night in the main campground and then did a little backpacking to reach our site for the next night. We were a little early for the colorful leaves, but it was still really nice and the weather was perfect. Lost Maples State Natural Area. Can you spot those 2 tiny water specks in the picture? That's where we ended up camping (after a steep descent! The boys resting after our hike.

Monday, October 21, 2013. Josh and I don't usually participate in much during homecoming weekend. In fact, we usually avoid campus altogether because it is so crazy! Titus with some of our students. Enjoying the parade with my "Chemistry Lab Lab." Titus was a huge hit, and most. Of the people understood what his lab coat meant :). ACU's Big Purple Marching Band. Here come the Wildcats! Brokaw Tidbits: September 2014

http://brokawtidbits.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 8, 2014. Washington Trip, Part 4- Traveling Home. We had a couple nice nights of camping before returning to TX. We kept things very simple and stayed in primitive campgrounds without water or electricity. I'm pretty proud of the fact that we only spent $40 total for lodging during our 18-day trip. Our first stop on the trek back from Washington was in southern Idaho. Milner Historic Recreation Area- along the Snake River. What does it mean if the labrador sees his shadow? Titus had to ...

Wednesday, May 15, 2013. 2013 Garden, Part 2- Surviving the Cold and Making Cute Garden Markers. Well, the new ground cover and watering system seem to be working well so far. The plants didn't seem to grow much at first, but now they are taking off! We had one more cold night we had to get through. We covered some rows with extra ground cloth and tarps, and we covered some individual plants with buckets. Of course it didn't get as cold as we expected, but better safe than sorry! Brokaw Tidbits: July 2014

http://brokawtidbits.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 10, 2014. Lake Brownwood State Park. The week of July 4th, but before the crazy weekend rush, we spent a few days camping at Lake Brownwood State Park. Neither of us had been there before, so it was fun to explore a new lake. We brought along Titus' tent so he could escape from the ants and flies. He did not like to be zipped up inside, so he made sure to lie down in a way that would prevent the door from being closed :). Of course he slept in our tent at night. Titus checking out the bass.
