Trekking through the sage and scrub we happen upon walls of stone. A hearth which once held the warmth of kinship now holds only ashes heated by the relentless sun. Long gone are the hands that toiled and labored to form this humble dwelling. Blood and sweat are no longer evident in the mortar that refuses to give up its hold. Only an empty shell sits in silent testimony to the lives it once sheltered. Wind whistling through empty rooms is the only sound our conscious mind can hear.

Thursday came quickly. The plan was to leave work early, or at least as close to 4pm as possible. Unfortunately plans never seem to develop exactly as anticipated. Maybe that s why we call them plans? Give me Mina, or give me death. At 2:00pm, without much rest we headed through the center of town on Douglas Road and out in to the open desert. I love Mina! Border Exploration Trip September 2007. On a mild September morning in 1865 a dust trail rose behind a rushing stage coach headed for Aurora Nevada. Traveling along the East Walker River, the team came to an abrupt stop in front of the Elbow Station. Horses were exchanged and passengers dusted off their garments.
