HIKING FOR A CURE. The Triple Crown Project. Hello my name is Tyler Alford. This is my story about having Type 1 Diabetes. It was during Christmas winter break. I had not been feeling well for a couple weeks. Thinking I had a cold or flue my mom and dad had been keeping an eye on me. My dad had been diagnosed the previous year with Type 2 Diabetes and was working to gain control of his diabetes by losing weight and managing his diet.

Here is a letter to all of you from Dan Heady, your 2011 scholarship recipient. Dan recently completed his 50 day leadership training with Outward Bound:. My Outward Bound Expedition included two weeks in the San Juan Islands sea kayaking, two weeks Mountaineering in the Sawtooth Wilderness, nine days training in wilderness medicine, one week hiking through the Pasaytan Wilderness and three days teaching teenagers how to safely repel and rock climb. Fifty days of intense physical and mental exercise.
