After some five years out of the Land Rover hobby due to a long time spent renovating an old cottage, I finally finished the renovations and managed to build a workshop so that I could start another rebuild. I got the water temperature sender fitted today. I took the wire off then used a 5/8 socket and just unscrewed it. Not much water spilled out.
