The local high schoolers are testing the entire week, so we dismiss 2 hours early each day and then the following week, we get off Monday and Tuesday. October 20, 2012. Today is my birthday. A big one, at that. The one that comes with a complimentary identity crisis. The one in which you balance the checkbook of your life and feel you're on overdraft. The one that brings a new F word: FORTY. Like forty years ago, I begin this day at midnight, to the sound of my mother's voice, although I must say that this time is much more comfortable and less painful for her, and I am able to carry a conversation with some more fluidity than the day we first met!
