The development trust encourages trading concessions at the harbour as a strategy to:. Provide a service to visitors. Generate income to help maintain the harbour. Improve the experience of visitors to the harbour. Concessions operate from 1 March through to 31 October each year and are allocated using a formal procurement process. The harbour has been central to settlement on Lindisfarne into prehistory. Evidence of prehistoric activity has been found during archaeological field survey and excavation. The natural harbour and plentiful food supply from the sea would have made the site attractive for settlement. The harbour and surrounding land are striking landscapes for professional film or photography crews working on Holy Island. Parts of the harbour are an industrial environment and during the tourist season the area is visited by thousands. Therefore, the development trust welcomes commercial or professional crews on to our property only with prior agreement. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne lies off the Northumberland coast connected to the mainland by a tidal causeway that is closed by the sea twice a day. The island has a resident population of 162, but welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, attracted by the island's cultural, natural and spiritual heritage, which is of international significance. Supporting the fishing industry, although employing small total numbers, is therefore crucial to sustaining a resident community on Holy Island.

Moorings and Boat Launching. There are a variety of boat moorings in The Ouse. New moorings have been installed thanks to a grant from the Village SOS scheme in 2013. These moorings are available on an annual or short-term basis. The harbour can be used as a boat-launching facility. Information for users of the harbour on the historic Holy Island of Lindisfarne, off the north Northumberland coast. The harbour and surrounding land are managed as a social enterprise by Holy Island of Lindisfarne Community Development Trust for the benefit of the entire island community. The inner harbour, The Ouse, has moorings for boats including visiting vessels. There is a limited amount of onshore storage space for boats. You can launch pleasure craft and canoes from the harbour.
