Our Accomplishments and The Unexpected  - August 16, 2014 - The Wilds of Walcott Road: our homesteading adventure

http://www.homesteadingadventure.com/blog/our-accomplishments-and-the-unexpected-august-16-2014

Our Accomplishments and The Unexpected - August 16, 2014. I wake up each morning, slip my glasses on and gaze out the window. Aspen, pine, spruce, our pond and fire pit, the occasional squirrel or deer and so many birds. yes, I have been homesick and yes, some days have been crazy but I love where we live. We moved to our log cabin in the woods six months ago. A far cry from the East Vancouver apartment of my 20s. Ha! Shed cleaned and repaired. Multiple jars of dandelion and fireweed jelly canned. Homesi...

Today marks the first year anniversary of our move to Walcott Road. Those first few weeks weren't easy. - The Wilds of Walcott Road: our homesteading adventure

http://www.homesteadingadventure.com/blog/today-marks-the-first-year-anniversary-of-our-move-to-walcott-road-those-first-few-weeks-werent-easy

Today marks the first year anniversary of our move to Walcott Road. Those first few weeks weren't easy. The roads were clear and the winter skies were blue. Our life was packed up in a small u-haul trailer. After many teary goodbye's and me questioning, "Are we doing the right thing? Um We didn't know. Ack! We were desperate. What kind of internet service do our neighbors have? We aren't THAT rural! We DO have neighbors! After twelve days of panic, with the assistance of a kind young man, our internet an...

Small home living - The Wilds of Walcott Road: our homesteading adventure

http://www.homesteadingadventure.com/blog/our-move-from-an-1800-square-foot-house-in-the-suburbs-to-a-775-square-foot-log-cabin-in-the-woods

Our move from an 1800 square foot house in the suburbs to a 775 square foot log cabin in the woods. We live in a smaller than average home. I wouldn't call it a tiny home but it is definitely smaller than your typical suburban family home. It wasn't always this way. We were inspired by the documentary film, ' We the Tiny House People: Small Homes, Tiny Flats and Wee Shelters. But could we do it? Could our family live in a smaller home? We began looking at our hydro and gas bill more critically. Seriously...

Yes, it happened. My biggest fear happened... - The Wilds of Walcott Road: our homesteading adventure

http://www.homesteadingadventure.com/blog/yes-it-happened-my-biggest-fear-happened

Yes, it happened. My biggest fear happened. I had a few fears about moving to a rural property 1000 km away from our family, friends and everything that was familiar. I knew one particular fear inevitably would happen but when it did I was horrified, sleepless and seriously eeeeeked out. They are little animals. No biggie," or I'd think of my favourite childhood book,. Ms Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. After a surprisingly brief discussion:. Me: We need cats to deal with the mice. Your comment will be post...

Our first Christmas on our homestead - The Wilds of Walcott Road: our homesteading adventure

http://www.homesteadingadventure.com/blog/our-first-christmas-here

Our first Christmas here. We enjoyed our first Christmas here, at our new homestead in northern British Columbia. Shop windows were filled with lit holiday displays. Christmas was in the air! It snowed here. And it snowed some more! Snow was always a what we would wish for on Christmas at our home in southern British Columbia but we rarely received. Christmas eve night we enjoyed a fire outside with hot chocolate and sledding. Everyone enjoyed, at least they said they did and nobody got sick. Hoorah!

Homesteading and Philosophy

Sunday, July 1, 2012. I would like you first to read this article. Go ahead and enjoy, then come back and do your best to slog through my own ramblings. I was fortunate enough to have the pleasure of meeting Mr Cooper, featured prominently in the above linked article, at the Midwest Ox Drovers Association Gathering. I would now count myself as a bonafide scythe enthusiast, albeit certainly a novice in skill level. To this end, I feel compelled to spread the scythe gospel to all who will listen. As noted ...
