Homemaking on the Homestead: Menu Monday!

http://homesteadinghomemaker.blogspot.com/2015/08/menu-monday.html

Canning, Freezing and Preserving. Monday, August 3, 2015. So we lived on leftovers, sandwiches and frozen food that was reheated in the microwave. This week the temps outside drop back into the lower 80's and I see a little more cooking happening. Hope you all are surviving summer and meal planning. Leftover hamburger/rice/zucchini casserole, salad. Burgers on the grill. Crockpot chicken chili,. Tortilla chips, salad. French bread, green beans. Macaroni salad, watermelon. Homemaking on the Homestead: Easy Iced Coffee

http://homesteadinghomemaker.blogspot.com/2015/05/easy-iced-coffee.html

Canning, Freezing and Preserving. Friday, May 22, 2015. I love iced coffee in the summer. I’ve been looking for a way to have it that is simple. I think I found it. I made the mix up, stored it in the fridge and enjoyed it over the next few days poured over ice. I like my iced coffee a little sweet, but not overly sweet. The following recipe would be considered to me to be “lightly sweetened”. If you like sweeter coffee you can taste and adjust the sweetness to your own tastes. 1 pot very strong coffee.

Homemaking on the Homestead: Lacto Fermented Sauerkraut

http://homesteadinghomemaker.blogspot.com/2015/05/lacto-fermented-sauerkraut.html

Canning, Freezing and Preserving. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. This is a repost from an article I wrote a few years ago when I started making lacto fermented foods. I have not made anything fermented in some time. I'm gearing up to do this again. I love sauerkraut and it is easy to make. You will need whey to make this. Remember the feta cheese I posted about last week? Now to make some sauerkraut. Gather together this list of items:. 1- 1 gallon glass jar, with lid. 1 zip lock type bag, gallon size. To get ...

Homemaking on the Homestead: Canning Chicken Noodle-less Soup

http://homesteadinghomemaker.blogspot.com/2012/04/canning-chicken-noodle-less-soup.html

Canning, Freezing and Preserving. Thursday, April 5, 2012. Canning Chicken Noodle-less Soup. Today was one of those busy days that it seemed I was moving from the time my feet hit the floor until this evening. But, I got so much done and that is a great feeling! I started off with 2 chickens that were a total weight of about 10lbs. I put them in my 14 quart stock pot…. I then added 2 gallons of water. And 3 tablespoons salt. I brought this to a boil and let is simmer all night, a total of about 12 hours.

Homemaking on the Homestead: Apple Peach Tea

http://homesteadinghomemaker.blogspot.com/2015/05/apple-peach-tea.html

Canning, Freezing and Preserving. Friday, May 15, 2015. Summer and warm weather is just around the corner and having a cool refreshing drink on a hot afternoon is wonderful. It's even better if it's on the healthier side and is nice on the budget :) . This is a nice frugal way to stretch a 12 oz can of apple juice. With a little help from some tea bags I end up with a gallon of yummy apple peach tea. Here is how I do it. Then I pour this mixture into a 1 gallon juice container. Labels: In The Kitchen.

Our grateful walk through life while raising children with ADHD and Type 1 Diabetes. Thursday, July 15, 2010. While her older siblings were away at camp for the week, I thought it would be the perfect time for Abby to have her friend over for a girly sleepover. She doesn't get exclusive time like this very often,. And I wanted to maximize this time for her. Her sisters are not really into playing with her and her toys since they've outgrown most of it. Here's a peek at all our fun! 94 years ago today.

My favorite type of pickling is lacto-fermentation, where bacteria break down sugars and produce lactic acid. These bacteria are not only incredibly healthy (they’re the same type that folks eat Greek yoghurt for) but they also add flavour to the food. It’s been a while since I’ve done any pickling, and I believe the last time was when I made corned beef. Right when I first started this blog. Click to see larger view). The bacterium that makes yoghurt, also uses this reaction. Click to see larger view).
