honey|mission 2012: April 2012
http://blog.honeymission.ca/2012_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 3, 2012. 38 hours on the road.seriously! Our trip home started at about 9:30am on Friday and ended at 11:30pm (Uganda time) on Saturday night. The original plan had been to leave at 7am and go straight to the airport; however, our flight out of Entebbe was not scheduled to depart until almost midnight, which would have meant about 8 hours sitting in the airport waiting for our flight to board. Ashley and Kendra relax in the park. Canals - 'nuff said. We made it to the guesthouse and were p...

honey|mission 2012: Even sadder news
http://blog.honeymission.ca/2012/03/even-sadder-news.html
Friday, March 30, 2012. Earlier this week we learned that baby Angel has succumbed to her illness. Although we had previously posted the news of her HIV/AIDS diagnosis, we hadn't been aware that she was actually sick. On Monday of last week we had been at Sonrise Baby Home. Printing the children's feet for sponsorship materials, and Angel seemed fine at the time; but, it could be that the staff was downplaying her condition. On My First Daughter. Here lies, to each her parents' ruth,. Jinja, Uganda on Wi...

honey|mission 2012: The lion sleeps tonight (but not the hippos, baboons, or warthogs!)
http://blog.honeymission.ca/2012/03/lion-sleeps-tonight-but-not-hippos.html
Monday, April 2, 2012. The lion sleeps tonight (but not the hippos, baboons, or warthogs! They call this a kigelia (or sausage tree due to the hanging fruit). At the top of Murchison Falls. Our room in the tented Nile Safari Lodge. Sunrise at the Paraa Ferry launch. A cape buffalo stares us down across the Savannah. Elephants are said to have brought the palms from the Congo. When I was a young warthog! Pumbaa and his tiny entourage. One of many crocodiles we saw basking on the banks of Nile. Several cam...

honey|mission 2012: A first day of touring projects
http://blog.honeymission.ca/2012/03/first-day-of-touring-projects.html
Wednesday, March 7, 2012. A first day of touring projects. Once again, we were reminded of the necessity for self-empowerment, sustainability, and a positive attitude towards partners in development. Godfrey was not only a fantastic guide, but an inspiration as we consider the most effective means for our assistance over the next two weeks. Children of the Railway Community eat their breakfast porridge. Baby Angel just had a bath at the Sonrise Baby Home. We have been carefully listening to what they are...

Sunday, March 25, 2012. Some very sad news. You might remember the picture below from one of our very first posts (" A first day of touring projects. Kendra is holding baby Angel, who came to the Sonrise Baby Home only very recently. She was incredibly fragile and small when we met her, but she has recovered quickly since being rescued from neglect and abandonment. Kendra holds baby Angel at the Sonrise Baby Home. Pray for baby Angel for healing. Your Friends at Sonrise". Unfortunately, this is far too c...

honey|mission 2012: Last days with the girls
http://blog.honeymission.ca/2012/03/last-days-with-girls.html
Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Last days with the girls. The girls love to snuggle. Monday and Tuesday were the last days we had with the girls at Daniel's drop in home. We learned on the weekend that there is actually a name for the project - Mirembe Cottage. Mirembe means a place of peace, and this is what the girls requested be included in the name when Daniel asked them what they might like to call their home. Combined with the peaceful imagery of a cottage (for most, anyways! Steve worked through vowels...

honey|mission 2012: It's the weekend, but there's always lots to do
http://blog.honeymission.ca/2012/03/its-weekend-but-theres-always-lots-to.html
Monday, March 19, 2012. It's the weekend, but there's always lots to do. Kendra chats with some of the boys at The Sanctuary. Steve dribbles uphill, trying to avoid grazing cattle and a skilled defender. Soccer was fun. The pitch itself was rough, and on a hill, and part of the time included grazing cattle; but, everyone enjoyed the game and it was some fun exercise that didn’t involve walking into town or out to the street girls’ home. According to Kendra's boss, the garter has been everywhere! Its the ...
