Updating course conditions, projects, and generally whats on my mind. On September 19, 2012. As expected, over night, a storm ripped through the area. With 1.1″ of rain and winds gusting between 45 and 50 mph, the course was a mess this morning. The crew did a great job clearing debris from all the playing surfaces and putting all the bunkers back together, and the scheduled Member/3 Guest went off without a hitch. Larr; A Glance. Updating course conditions, projects, and generally whats on my mind. Through core aerification, deep tining and topdressing, we are changing the soil profile; increasing firmness, speed of greens, as well as improving drainage, strengthening roots and increasing plant health. Immediately after cores are pulled, the greens are topdressed, and brushed, working the sand into the profile. Deep tining the first green at BHCC. The holes are filled individually and completely. To improve heat and cold toleranc...

Updating course conditions, projects, and generally whats on my mind. Older pictures of Blue Hill CC and Norfolk GC have been difficult to find. Conversely, The Country Club’s rich golf history is well documented. Here’s a small collection of various historical photos I’ve come across. The Weatherbee pasture, c.1918, before Blue Hill CC, taken from Dedham St. looking towards future clubhouse. Some text I found, from 1997. A company headed by Charles Reynolds constructed the nine hole course which opened ...

Updating course conditions, projects, and generally whats on my mind. The Past Week or So. On November 12, 2012. Posted in: Cultural Practices. Two storms swept through the area over the last two weeks. Both carrying damaging winds and setting us back on course cleanup. The crew has worked tirelessly to catch up, but with seasonal layoffs coming soon, I’m not sure we’ll be able to get it all beofre we put the main course to bed. Kiln dried, bagged sand for drill-and-fill. Larr; Light Topdress.

Light Topdress | Turf 365

Updating course conditions, projects, and generally whats on my mind. On October 10, 2012. Posted in: Cultural Practices. With showers in the forecast, we “hand” topdressed greens. Using kiln-dried, bagged sand, we applied it light enough that the rain would knock it down through the canopy. The point of this application is not to ammend the soils as with other heavier topdressing, but to improve the smoothness and ball roll on greens. Larr; A Glance. The Past Week or So. Updating course conditions, projects, and generally whats on my mind. On November 12, 2012. The picture illustrates the importance of tree work. On Saturday morning we had a frost delay as the first green would not clear. This time of year, the sun barely reaches the top of the trees behind 2 tee, about 75 yards away from the green. These few, out of play trees delayed tee times for an hour. Larr; A Glance. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public).

A tree company was brought in to remove the 60 and 70 plus foot trees and truck them off the property. The path before, as it comes over the hill and down towards the green. Just prior to being paved, the path has been widened and the angle softened. With the paving completed, we loamed the new surround and prepped it for seed. Create a free w...
