http://chihe13.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Yet another distraction to my life. The ponderings of a graduate traveller. Thursday, November 27, 2008. The perks of an F4 visa. So lately, qualified by my British accent, I have been recording part-time for English text books. Example sentences include:. 1) useful everyday phrases, e.g.: " The living room communicates with the dining room. It is abnormal for a two-month-year-old baby to have teeth. He caught our eyes with his characteristic beard. 3) political generalisations, e.g.:. I have actually fo...

Yet another distraction to my life: Forever 21

Yet another distraction to my life. The ponderings of a graduate traveller. Tuesday, February 24, 2009. The streets of Myeongdong are arguably one big fashion store. Clothes, shoes and accessories are on sale at cheap-cheap prices without having to step foot in a shop. But - and I've griped about this before - where are the size labels? Where are the dressing rooms? How do you know what you're buying is going to look as good on you as it does on the hanger? Bring on Forever 21. We were not disappointed.

Yet another distraction to my life. The ponderings of a graduate traveller. Sunday, February 15, 2009. N the interests of completion of the blog I post it now - unedited from what I originally wrote - intended as a reminder of the various thoughts I've had over the year. Korea: The Land of the Morning Calm. Or at least, that's what it was nicknamed as a loose translation of. Most parents wish the best for their children. But if that means sacrificing their own beliefs, here they may be willing to sac...

Yet another distraction to my life. The ponderings of a graduate traveller. Thursday, July 31, 2008. West Sea Isles: Getting Away From It All. Tiring of the rain in Seoul, following a reliable Google forecast for further showers in Incheon, that's where we headed on Tuesday afternoon. Full to the brim with pseudo-Chinese food (I hear that the popular 'Chinese' dish jajangmyun. Maybe this just isn't a prime holiday spot, but that works for me. Yet another distraction to my life. The ponderings of a graduate traveller. Monday, February 16, 2009. Korea has this kind of ingrained dislike of used goods. Second-hand furniture/electronics stores are around, but charity shops for the little things aren't such a well-known concept. First opened in 2001 and now with locations all over Korea, offers an opportunity to buy and donate second-hand items. Part of the Beautiful Foundation. Apart from my books. What The Book. Yet another distraction to my life. The ponderings of a graduate traveller. Tuesday, September 30, 2008. This isn't actually a post about poker. But good friend Ed happened to qualify for the tournament so shipped himself over for the weekend. Luckily for me he went out in the first day, but that meant we had all weekend to spend together; clearly that's why he qualified in the first place, right? Insadong and Changdeokgung and. Yet another distraction to my life. The ponderings of a graduate traveller. Friday, June 27, 2008. If it's a competition, I'm there. Now it wasn't that I wanted to level up for self-congratulatory purposes. I'm not really about to bust a gut over something that is ultimately a hobby with beneficial outcomes. To be the irritating stud...

Yet another distraction to my life. The ponderings of a graduate traveller. Tuesday, May 27, 2008. Whatever way you choose, there is one thing that really leaves my head scratching. What is with the concept of "free size"? One size fits all? Since so much clothes shopping here is of the market variety, to try-before-you-buy isn't always an option. So how are you supposed to know if this "free size" is going to fit or not? Where do all the non free-sizers shop? Sunday, May 25, 2008. Friday, May 23, 2008.

Gevalt!
A cry of fear, astonishment, amazement. Gevalt! A cry for help. Gevalt! A desperate expression of protest: Gevalt! Lord, enough already! The above is excerpted from Leo Rosten's excellent The Joys of Yiddish.
