Ian Schoenherr: Lost Jackets: Wonder Light
https://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2013/11/lost-jackets-wonder-light.html
Friday, November 1, 2013. Lost Jackets: Wonder Light. Sometimes I can’t say goodbye to sketches that get superseded by other ideas. Here’s such an example, made for the jacket of Wonder Light. Ian Schoenherr: The Apothecary is now in paperback
https://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-apothecary-is-now-in-paperback.html
Monday, February 11, 2013. The Apothecary is now in paperback. By Maile Meloy - with a whole bunch of my illustrations - is now out in paperback. It’s a pretty thing, I think, and it appeals to my magpie sensibilities. Eagle-eyed readers (and even skylark-eyed, robin-eyed, and swallow-eyed ones) will notice that I tweaked the original jacket painting. And it’s nice to share some pictorial real estate with Garth Williams. In the middle reader category) The E. B. White Read-Aloud Award. Read It Dont Eat It.

Ian Schoenherr: Elixirium
https://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2014/02/elixirium.html
Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Why, it’s The Apothecary. By Maile Meloy - now published in German by Coppenrath and given the perhaps more intriguing title Elixirium. Viel Spaß beim Lesen! Or something like that). Wow, love your colors and textures, Ian! February 6, 2014 at 3:01 PM. Funny, Im not sure how much the colors and textures are actually mine - they did some tweaking to the art, which more closely resembles the cover seen here:. But I forgive them -. February 6, 2014 at 9:31 PM. Read It Dont Eat It.

A Cineaste's Bookshelf: January 2012
http://cineastesbookshelf.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 27, 2012. REVIEW: THE BLACKHOPE ENIGMA by Teresa Flavin. This was another young adult (I'd place this in the 9-13 year old age range) title that made its way into my review pile. Something about its description, and yes, its cover, kept tempting me. It's certainly a much better book for young people to read than most of the vampire tripe out there. At least with this title they can see characters which determination, spunk and intelligence. Many thanks to the folks at Candlewick Press.
Alien Menagerie: John Schoenherr
http://alienmenagerie.blogspot.com/2014/06/john-schoenherr.html
Wednesday, June 18, 2014. This is the first appearance of DUNE as it was serialized in Analog magazine, cover date - December 1963, photographed in front of 5219 39th Avenue in Queens. I've been by this house hundreds of times. It's five, short blocks from where I've lived for the past 20 years! So was this: It's his second book cover, and a favorite of mine. So were these: Both originally covers for Analog magazine, but I knew them from the book TOMORROW AND BEYOND. Ian's blog devoted to John Schoenherr.

Howard Pyle: Pyle on Barye and Wyeth
http://howardpyle.blogspot.com/2014/08/pyle-on-barye-and-wyeth.html
Friday, August 29, 2014. Pyle on Barye and Wyeth. In a post two years ago, I quoted Howard Pyle’s thoughts on the sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye. But I want to expand on that post. To show why he brought Barye up in the first place. On August 29, 1904, 21-year-old N. C. Wyeth brought in the charcoal drawing seen here for Pyle’s weekly composition lecture. According to Ethel Pennewill Brown and Olive Rush - who took notes during these lectures - Pyle said something like this that day:. As you have him but w...
Howard Pyle: Another Picture for Arthur Conan Doyle
http://howardpyle.blogspot.com/2015/02/another-picture-for-arthur-conan-doyle.html
Sunday, February 22, 2015. Another Picture for Arthur Conan Doyle. This Howard Pyle picture went untitled when it appeared in Harper’s Weekly. For December 1, 1894, illustrating Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Parasite. However, in the book version (published in mid-December 1894, after the four-part serialization) it was called “‘Struck me with both fists’” - and indeed it shows the spellbound hero of the novella, Austin Gillroy, beating the stuffing out of his friend Charles Sadler. Has been located. I st...
