Learning Log for L1 Textiles course with OCA. Part 1 Project 1 Ex 1.6 Music. March 17, 2017. March 18, 2017. The point of this task is to explore music as a source of ideas, producing a series of drawings of a still. Life but influenced by different pieces of music. I have also been working on my drawing skills using traditional materials such as charcoal and pastel (as opposed to the more experimental drawing I’ve done on the course) so this seems a good point to test them out and explore the boundary b...

The second part of my learning log for MMT. January 6, 2017. January 6, 2017. That I’ve only really touched on yet feel the urge to return to. And ideas or themes that seem to be going with me from MMT to IAP: the importance of touch; cloth and memory; notions of beauty and ugliness; multiples and repetition; loss and rebuilding. The second part of my learning log for MMT. Part 5 Tutor Feedback and Response. January 8, 2017. January 27, 2017. From Cari’s feedback on part 5 with my response:. Great evaluation – not only of practical work but also working methods, strengths/weaknesses, aesthetic and conceptual potential and role of viewer/audience. This is something I need to continue. Research has a good range of references and sources; well analysed and critiqued; clearly related to my own work and methods. Explore my understandi...

Learning log for my textiles degree. Part 4 Mono and Collatype Pj 1 Monoprint first attempt. September 23, 2016. September 24, 2016. My background experience of printing so far is limited to experimenting with mono printing on a gelli plate ( here. And three days of collagraph workshop with Emily Harvey ( here. Elements of these both intrigued me and frustrated me, as I reflected at the time, so I am interested to see where this Part leads me. I still find collage (or collagraph plate) tedious and rather...

The second part of my learning log for MMT. Part 5 Response to Tutor Feedback: The communicative power of colour. January 21, 2017. Additional sample group 1. Blending together for comfort and security? I haven’t used gesso but lightly sanded the cast piece to mimic the effects of time and erosion, leaving a depth of colour and texture in the untouched areas. I’ve been intrigued by the ‘blind’ mouth of these shapes I’ve been making; they seem like vessels to me, full to the brim o...And it seems to sit w...

https://mixedmediafortextiles.wordpress.com/2016/10/01/part-4-mono-and-collatype-project-1-monotype-reworked
Learning log for my textiles degree. Part 4 Mono and Collatype: Project 1 Monotype – Reworked. October 1, 2016. After many many samples, some posted here. In my first attempt at Project 1, the process of mono printing has continued to nag at me; I felt I was missing something that could be good but I genuinely couldn’t see what was to be gained by it for someone like myself not particularly focused on either print making or drawing as an art form (as opposed to a creative tool). Conclusions and where next.
