Alaska with attitude : September 2008
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 25, 2008. Numbers 4 and 5. To steal a phrase from my daughter who pulled it off in the perfect situation: I'll get back to you on that. The picture is a visitor to the feeder last year, a hairy woodpecker. Links to this post. Tuesday, September 23, 2008. It had to happen on the Equinox. Twelve hours of darkness, twelve hours of daylight and this morning for the first time this fall, the temperature below freezing. Links to this post. Monday, September 22, 2008. Links to this post.

Alaska with attitude : What's the symbolism here?
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2015/07/whats-symbolism-here.html
Wednesday, July 22, 2015. What's the symbolism here? Curious, very curious. Eginning the mystery of the black pansy. I prefer starting from seeds rather than buying already blossoming plants off the rack at the supermarket, so these just showed up in the past week after a start indoors and more than a month outdoors. Now I think they have more of a use as something of a muse. But the pansies, at least one, added an unexpected twist. What does the black symbolize? And further, why only three? I'm a drinke...

Alaska with attitude : The siren song of the big ocean retold in a botched haiku
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-siren-song-of-big-ocean-retold-in.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. The siren song of the big ocean retold in a botched haiku. And through the rigging. From the open sea. I heard the tempting ocean. Sing its song to me. I thought this was going to be my first haiku, at least the first one I intended to be a haiku. I worked very carefully to get 17 beats and it even came out with a rhyme. Then just for kicks, I looked up the definition. After all what fun is there in doing research ahead of time? Road Haikus continued: in a waiting room. Religious...

Alaska with attitude : They grow so fast, don't they?
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2015/08/they-grow-so-fast-dont-they.html
Sunday, August 9, 2015. They grow so fast, don't they? By rights those two trees should be in this 2008 photo to. The left of center. See the two trunks to the left of. Odd list of events at and along the trails around the East Pole over the weekend. That's a pretty satisfying day at the pole. It was between the dinner and Ally McBeal,. Who the hell brings a baby stroller into the deep woods? And how do you lose one? Continuing along, dodging ruts, falling into others and skidding all over the place on t...

Alaska with attitude : Here's one of the pitfalls in the writing process
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2015/07/heres-one-of-pitfalls-in-writing-process.html
Saturday, July 18, 2015. Here's one of the pitfalls in the writing process. Vintage WWII VD poster. Icture a small town along the Alaska coast where everyone recognizes everyone else, and most are at least passing acquaintances. Among these citizens a writer toils in the days before Internet and with access only to a limited library. He often has to find a local expert in something or other to confirm the accuracy of a tidbit he is writing. This may be one reason people hear of cloistered writers, at lea...

Alaska with attitude : How does your garden grow July 2015 edition
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2015/07/how-does-your-garden-grow-july-2015.html
Sunday, July 12, 2015. How does your garden grow July 2015 edition. Lettuce and spinach with a whole garbage bag full gone. Yesterday a friend asked how my garden was doing and the only adjective that came to mind was overflowing. In that came the realization that I haven’t put up any photos in maybe a month. So at least the blog isn't overflowing with garden pictures not until today anyway. Joseph Wambaugh is not impressed. Potatoes after two harvests. More squash, zucchini and acorn. You want to feel a...

Alaska with attitude : Melissa, McGonnegal and a muddy trail through an Alaska lifetime
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-muddy-trail-into-collection-of-alaska.html
Monday, July 6, 2015. Melissa, McGonnegal and a muddy trail through an Alaska lifetime. Heading in, so nice and clean. Coming out with the goods? Eh, not so clean. Elsewhere moving north past the spruce forest into a more desiduous. So the main thing you need to bring is lots of ice, right? Bear tracks and deep muddy ruts. Melissa and McGonnegal." The premise is Melissa is. A ballerina who decides to teach the moose, who usually. Just stands around, some ballet steps. July 7, 2015 at 5:56 AM. The cabin s...

Alaska with attitude : August 2008
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 25, 2008. In search of the Snake River. Again the deja vu came up only of a different sort. I passed their casino feeling I had already donated enough to the cause of indigenous peoples. We talked about the university where three of her children had gone. We talked about Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce. I don’t know why that story brings emotions to the surface, but it does. And maybe why in such frustration Chief Joseph would, “fight no more forever.”. Links to this post. Links to this post.

Alaska with attitude : Fireweed
http://alaskaatitude.blogspot.com/2015/07/fireweed.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. Photo by Celeste Prescott, Alaska Division of Forestry. Post about three weeks ago spoke to the fact that the blooms on the fireweed had reached the top of the stalk which meant six more weeks until there's snow on the ground. There are still three weeks to go to make that true but no new snow high on the mountain yet. Still there are a lot of yellow leaves in the trees and more on the ground in the yard. So, now as the rebuilding continues and people gradually return to their land...
