Fast and Free: More Steering

http://idledad.blogspot.com/2008/10/more-steering.html

The Idle Dad's Guide to Building an Electric Trike. Saturday, October 25, 2008. Now what I need to decide is how to mount the steering mechanism. Options:. The easy way, relatively speaking, is to cut out the steering system from the old bike and affix it under the seat. Unfortunately, the old bike's head is longer than the space where it needs to go, so this is out. Find a smaller head. The main problem here is the hassle and cost. Fast and Free: Stupid Mistakes #1

http://idledad.blogspot.com/2008/11/stupid-mistakes-1.html

The Idle Dad's Guide to Building an Electric Trike. Friday, November 7, 2008. Anyone else trying this, learn from my supid mistakes. When attaching the rear fork into the bike frame, do it. The wheel in the fork. I just put the wheel into the fork, and it's all but impossible to keep it from rubbing up against either the bamboo, the brake, or both. Now I have to cut off the rear fork and put it back on again. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Clever Solutions to Stupid Mistakes. View my complete profile.

Fast and Free: July 2008

http://idledad.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

The Idle Dad's Guide to Building an Electric Trike. Thursday, July 31, 2008. Joining caused splitting of the hardwood dowel, and subsequent stress and splitting of the crosspole. Joint was not square. No problems with compression of the bamboo from the bolt. There was minimal wiggling in the joint, but when I applied pressure the screw of the hanger-bolt pulled out of the dowel, due to its split. Also, screwing in the hanger-bolt is challenging. Mortise and Tenon Joint. Here is an alternative joinery tec...

Fast and Free: Stupid Mistakes #2

http://idledad.blogspot.com/2008/11/stupid-mistakes-2.html

The Idle Dad's Guide to Building an Electric Trike. Friday, November 7, 2008. I bought the kid bikes from which I will harvest the front forks. Walmart kid bikes are much cheaper than buying the parts from even online bike shops, and who knows? I could even put the rear section together with the front wheel from the mountain bike and make a delta trike later. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Clever Solutions to Stupid Mistakes. Fast and Free: September 2008

http://idledad.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

The Idle Dad's Guide to Building an Electric Trike. Saturday, September 20, 2008. Splicing in the crank supports. If I do it again, I will cut a slot through both sides of each pole, and have the triangle pass all the way through. As it is, the ply can wiggle slightly inside the poles, and depends on the epoxy to prevent this. Friday, September 19, 2008. It actually looks like something. Monday, September 8, 2008. I cut the crank off of a mountain bike. I now have a cylinder with little metal tube re...

Uliante Stories: August 2008

http://uliante2.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

The online and irregular writing diary of Brian Wightman and Eugene Fairfield. View my complete profile. Friday, August 29, 2008. Okay, I did work on the transition. It got hard, I got stuck, I got distracted by the summer. I'm back in the colony story. I've been doing a lot of the first visit to the new world, and the lead-up to it. Busy time. Now I'm distracted from that, by an insane need to build an electric bicycle. Visit http:/ idledad.blogspot.com. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Is licensed under a.

The Idle Dad's Guide to Building an Electric Trike. Saturday, November 15, 2008. There's a red support post holding it up, because the wheels aren't attached yet. Attaching the wheels is going to be a delicate operation to keep everything lined up and balanced, but here is the trike (less the seat), it's first real appearance. Clever Solutions to Stupid Mistakes. 1 Rear Wheel Misalignment. Okay, this is not so much of a clever solution. It's more a stupid solution to a stupid mistake. I got what I paid f...
