Notes from the Drain: December 2009
http://notesfromthedrain.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 26, 2009. Time gave us a wonderful Christmas present this year: three days off in a row together. We spent the first day downtown sightseeing. The ice skating rinks and glittery lights got us in the mood, but nothing says Christmas like a man snoring loudly in the Macy's furniture department while his wife shops. Walking through the Ferry Building bookstore we found a book of quotes about San Francisco. My favorites:. San Francisco is a golden handcuff with the key thrown away.". Seein...

Notes from the Drain: November 2010
http://notesfromthedrain.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 26, 2010. We're In the Butters. After four laps of the Delta arrivals gate at San Francisco International, we received a call from our would be passenger. I'm outside of Terminal One.". Audrey said, "You mean there's more than one terminal here? Terminal One is the departures gate. A quick loop-de-loop and a death-defying lane change later and we were happily distributing hugs and "Welcome to San Francisco"s. Luggage in the trunk, Dad in the front seat and we were on the road. When we pu...

Notes from the Drain: Post Occupied
http://notesfromthedrain.blogspot.com/2012/02/post-occupied_12.html
Sunday, February 12, 2012. What have the Occupy protesters done to manifest change in the world? Audrey and I barely make ends meet. We have both worked since we were children. For entertainment we go on walks. We go to the museum on free day. We read. Before moving out here to California, we bought two shotgun houses in Indianapolis for around $20K each. We intended to fix them up and sell them for a profit. But that didn't work out. Today we're upside down in both. Even if she had possessed the wealth ...

Notes from the Drain: October 2010
http://notesfromthedrain.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 10, 2010. 10-10-10, good buddy. Among the many travesties our government has perpetrated upon its citizenry is its recommendation five years ago that CB users cease to utilize the official Ten Code, "in favor of regular language.". I can't help but wonder, "What do they think a code is? Alas, we bid farewell to "10-4" (affirmative), "10-30" (danger), "10-26" (estimated arrival time), and "10-20" (location, as in "What's your 20? But I would rather light a bonfire than curse the fog. With ...

Notes from the Drain: October 2011
http://notesfromthedrain.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 21, 2011. Recent Attempts to Find Myself. Imaginary cliques abound. Universities, hometowns, corporations and every nation on earth. Each one calls us to identify with some ideal, some set of priorities, some agenda, some history. Outsiders define their own ideals, write their own history, set their own priorities. I said, "I'm looking for Bigfoot.". He said, "I think it's a myth.". So there we both were, hunting for myths. We identified some Bigfootian graffiti. And some tempting clues.

Notes from the Drain: If it won't reach...stretch.
http://notesfromthedrain.blogspot.com/2012/01/if-it-wont-reachstretch.html
Friday, January 6, 2012. If it won't reach.stretch. Since 1952, the population of the United States has doubled. If I said that in the past sixty years the population of my living room doubled, that would not be cause for alarm. I don't compete with the inhabitants of my living room for survival. We collaborate. But America is not my living room. Americans in 1952: 157,552,740. Americans in 2012: 312,901,000. What does that mean for artists? Here are two recent expressions of my freedom:. A pocket-sized ...
