In The Overshoot: 3 Flights, 2 Planes, 1 Day
http://intheovershoot.blogspot.com/2013/01/3-flights-2-planes-1-day.html
A record of my adventures and experiences in the aviation industry, as a professional pilot and private aircraft owner/operator. Sunday, January 6, 2013. 3 Flights, 2 Planes, 1 Day. November 18, 2012. Another hour's worth of flying and we touch down in Val-d'or. We're making excellent progress, considering how long it took us to get up to Kuujjuaq a month ago. After about a half dozen phone calls I manage to track down the guy that I need from the shop here that can issue me a maintenance release. Lo...

A record of my adventures and experiences in the aviation industry, as a professional pilot and private aircraft owner/operator. Tuesday, July 2, 2013. The Intricacies of the Checklist. Another reason against using off-the-shelf checklists that are not tailored to your operation is because they may not contain critical items on them that are specific to your particular operation, and you won't be able to rely on them 100%. If you can't trust your checklist, what good is it? View my complete profile.

A record of my adventures and experiences in the aviation industry, as a professional pilot and private aircraft owner/operator. Friday, October 26, 2012. I Love the Smell of Avgas in the Morning. We spent 3 more days stuck in Chibougamau while a stationary Low pressure system had its fun swirling around in the North Atlantic bringing a mixture of freezing rain, low cloud and high winds in Northern Quebec. In the meantime my colleague and I found a bar in town that served fantastic ribs and $5 pints.

A record of my adventures and experiences in the aviation industry, as a professional pilot and private aircraft owner/operator. Saturday, June 8, 2013. Seeing as how I've been flying professionally in the same job now for a few years, new and exciting experiences are becoming fewer and fewer - at least ones that are exciting to write about. This is a good thing career-wise, but makes for boring blogging. There are a lot of external factors exerted on pilots to rush through things. Unexpected hiccups...

http://intheovershoot.blogspot.com/2013/12/higher-faster-further.html
A record of my adventures and experiences in the aviation industry, as a professional pilot and private aircraft owner/operator. Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Higher, Faster, Further. By now the rocky mountains have gradually leveled out into the flat farmland of Nebraska. Not much to see now. Three hours into the flight and I'm holding a steady 228 kts groundspeed - the highest I've ever seen as a pilot. I think I saw 210 kts in the Twin Comanche once way back when, and that was down at 3000 ft when...

Black Flies and Bush Planes: Winter Work
http://5400airportrdsouth.blogspot.com/2014/12/winter-work.html
Black Flies and Bush Planes. Sunday, December 28, 2014. Their was still flying to be done during the winter months, but not enough to keep three pilots on payroll. Dad and Son could easily handle the winter flying and I needed to find something else to fill in the other 7 months of the year. My driving " experience " from my airport job down south gave me a little in the way of knowledge, but really, I had a lot to learn. I spent two winters on the Body-Job, delivering furnace oil to home tanks, gasoline...

Black Flies and Bush Planes. Sunday, August 14, 2011. Your file is uploading, please wait. Went out the other day on a flight to Fort Liard, and ended up holding for most of the day in the community. It was hot, like 30 degrees hot, and I had dressed for a relatively cool morning and still in bug-protection mode. ( pants and at best, a long sleeve shirt wit the sleeves rolled up ). From left to right, the instruments and radio gear are;. A Wind Direction indicator. A Wind Speed Indicator. The CARs operat...

Black Flies and Bush Planes. Friday, December 24, 2010. Not mine, but seasonally appropriate. Twas the night before Christmas, and out on the ramp,. Not an airplane was stirring, not even a Champ. The aircraft were fastened to tiedowns with care,. In hopes that come morning, they all would be there. The fuel trucks were nestled, all snug in their spots,. With gusts from two-forty at 39 knots. I slumped at the fuel desk, now finally caught up,. And settled down comfortably, resting my butt. Then I heard "...

Black Flies and Bush Planes. Saturday, January 8, 2011. F is for Filming. Occasionally the FBO where I work is used as a movie set. This week it was some US television series I had never heard of, but based on the amount of equipment they brought, it is obviously a big deal. My favourite piece of kit they bring is the catering truck. The food was good. F is for Fire. A few years ago, the Avgas truck at one of our competitors had a mechanical malfunction while it was idling on their ramp and ended up catc...

Black Flies and Bush Planes. Sunday, October 24, 2010. C is for Circadian Rhythms. Ok, before I get into the flimsily disguised motivational trick I'm trying to use to actually post an entry, a quick update on happenings. This is for the odd person who reads to keep up with happenings in our little family as opposed to the incredibly boring and trivial aviation stuff I try to stick to with this blog. So, we had a baby girl about two months ago and she's doing great! On the one hand, there is nothing bett...

Black Flies and Bush Planes. Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Well, its been awhile. a lot has happened since I last summoned up the courage to type out an entry and get over my embarrassment at not having posted for eight months. But, what the Hay, lets see if I can make a run at this again. I guess a recap of the missing time period would be a good way to start. So, short story shorter, here we are. I don't particularly like using this blog as a platform to tell people about my personal life, because, well, th...

Black Flies and Bush Planes. Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Got up for my first revenue flight with passengers today for my new employer. I took a fellow up to a little northern community called Lutsel k'e as the. Regional Dene organization is having it's annual general meeting. It's. Held in a different community in the region every year and this year. It was Lutsel k'e's turn. Flight up was good, exactly an hour and a half. There was a little. The direct route would have taken me out over the lake, a good 20 or.

Black Flies and Bush Planes: January 2015
http://5400airportrdsouth.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Black Flies and Bush Planes. Thursday, January 8, 2015. So, a big part of my summer flying up north consisted of doing whats called " Smoke Patrol " for the local forestry department. Up here they're called the " ENR" , for Environment and Natural Resources. On no particular schedule they'd call us up and request a plane ( and pilot ) to fly one or more of their guys around and do a patrol of the district for any new fires and to get updates on existing fires. The only thing was, during a patrol, he'd be...

Red Velvet for the Birthday Girl. I used the red velvet Bakery emulsion for this cake and I was very pleased. It was one of those items you ask yourself do you really need to buy? What is wrong with red food coloring. We all know what is wrong with it. To get the color you want, you can end up with a funny after taste. This emulsion produced a beautiful cake, and had a wonderful red velvet taste. 1 3/4 cup sugar. 2 1/2 cups cake flour. 1 1/4 teaspoon salt. 1 teaspoon baking soda. 1 1/2 teaspoons vinegar.
Living In The Overflow
Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Call Me Kimmie Crocker! Can I just brag about myself for one minute! I want you to know that I not only cooked dinner for myself last night (a grilled chicken salad pita with sauteed zucchini squash on the side), but I also prepared a sweet potato casserole and a banana nut cake for Thanksgiving (they are eagerly awaiting their divine appointment with the oven on Thursday morning). I must say I felt so domestic and wifely! Well, I bought some muffin mix from the store and po...

The Friend i never meet:. É amigo, cinco anos, hein? Deixou pra trás seu coração, sabe que tantas coisas já aconteceram? Não posso mais retribuir o favor, é ...

A record of my adventures and experiences in the aviation industry, as a professional pilot and private aircraft owner/operator. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Has it really been over a year and a half since writing? Its a bit sad to think that I'm leaving a career that's been a part of my life since I was 16, but does anyone REALLY ever leave aviation? Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Higher, Faster, Further. Its lunch time, and the in-flight meal today is cold pizza from last night's dinner and a slosh of powera...
