A Little Peculier Brew. Making beer the way I want it. September 27, 2014. The weather has been kind to us this summer, and gladly it also gave me a lovely crop of hops in my back garden. They are First Gold, a dwarf variety which is suitable for growing in my garden as … Continue reading →. What I’ve been mumbling about previously. A Little Peculier Brew. Making beer the way I want it. Lager, The Gateway Beer into The World of Craft Beer! September 27, 2014. And after I planted them, the dog dug up two, but luckily one remained underground and has now flourished into a fine specimen of a plant. Lots of lovely cones! Hopping started off with adding hops directly from the bine to the first runnings of the mash – first wort hops as fresh as they could possibly be! Did I mention there were other ingredients in this beer other than hops?

The Bauernhaus: The Bierkeller, Part 3
http://thebauernhaus.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-bierkeller-part-3.html
Friday, 10 July 2015. The Bierkeller, Part 3. It's been slow and steady over the past couple of weeks, working in the cool of the cellar while it's been sweltering outside. The stone wall on the right has been fully repointed following the sandblasting. Partially repointed bottom half. Patches of sand represent stones that were shattered. One curious feature was what looked liek a pit with a wooden lid, but in fact, it was just a layer of broken tiles, not very deep, with a thin layer of wood on top....
The Bauernhaus: April 2015

Wednesday, 22 April 2015. In the barn, we seem to have quite the collection of old tables, which we've also started cleaning up in order to have a rustic kitchen table, though all have woodworm, so we need to something about that. But more of that anon. What I didn't notice while recording that, was some more writing on the door. It clearly said 1906, but I could not make out the rest. But thanks to Gerrit on Twitter. He recognised it as Sütterlin. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 160;with Séan Billings.

Monday, 30 June 2014. Tag der Architektur 2014. Last Saturday was Tag der Architektur, and as part of that, our architects, Architekten Dorbath Partner. Asked if we would mind opening our house (well, building site) to a group as part of a four-site tour in this region. Living room hasn't been so clean in years! My wife even set up a small display of things we found during the course of the renovation. A US army mess tin knife. Some coins. A bullet. lots of nails and iron mongery, and my ...I have to say...
The Bauernhaus: May 2015
http://thebauernhaus.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, 28 May 2015. Although there's plenty to be doing in the main part of the house, we've got a whole bunch of challenges, mostly outside, to be doing. We'd like to at least get most of them started this year, but only a few will get finished. In no particular order:. Turn the old cow stalls into a workshop and home brewery. Get a new front door and sort out the entry hall. Build a dry stone retaining wall around the patio area. Get the old pigsty into shape as a potting shed. 160;with Séan Billings.
