Isolated Foodie: February 2013
http://isolatedfoodie.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Cooking trials at the far edge of nowhere. Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Well, I'm not sure I'll stick with this design, but it's definitely time for Isolated Foodie to get a fresh look. I'll keep playing with some options. Expect changes! Tuesday, February 12, 2013. But never mind all that. It's time now for me to mention yet again how much I love good Vietnamese food. I've mentioned it here. In St Louis, where we ate with friends on our drive from Rain City to wherever we are now. So, so good. I've bee...
Isolated Foodie: The Wonders Of Bahn Mi
http://isolatedfoodie.blogspot.com/2009/04/wonders-of-bahn-mi.html
Cooking trials at the far edge of nowhere. Wednesday, April 8, 2009. The Wonders Of Bahn Mi. Husband and I met when we were both graduate students living in St. Louis. For those not in the know, St. Louis has incredibly cheap housing, which made it a good place to be a student on a limited budget. I bought a house my second year in the city and never looked back. The best suggestion he offered was his very first one: ordering my banh mi chay with double tofu, an option offered for all their sandwiches...
Isolated Foodie: Banh Minis
http://isolatedfoodie.blogspot.com/2013/02/banh-minis.html
Cooking trials at the far edge of nowhere. Tuesday, February 12, 2013. This kitchen is seeing a lot of new recipes and techniques because of Husband's New Year's resolution to become vegan. I am not particularly interested in becoming vegan, but happy to cut down on dairy and eggs, so I've promised five vegan dinners each week for now. It's been a long time since I bought silken tofu, but it's been a regular player so far this year. I love banh mi, no matter what size they are! Wow those look fantastic!
Isolated Foodie: October 2009
http://isolatedfoodie.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Cooking trials at the far edge of nowhere. Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Daring Cooks Do Pho. Morning, October 7th. This month, the Daring Cooks are visiting Vietnam via a bowl of steaming noodle soup. I love Vietnamese food and flavors. I dream of bahn mi chay. With double tofu from Banh Mi So No. 1 in St. Louis. On a frequent basis. This was a dangerous dream while I actually lived. Toasted coriander seed, cloves, and star anise. The recipes are from her new cookbook, The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook. And I ...
Isolated Foodie: August 2009
http://isolatedfoodie.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Cooking trials at the far edge of nowhere. Thursday, August 27, 2009. Daring Bakers: Dobos Torte Or, Why Toddlers Should Nap. This was the wrong day for my Small Girl to decide she didn't need a nap. I had a lot to do. Pizza to make (using a new baking technique that finally gave me the crust I long for). A big fat torte to finish. A (soon-to-be) new house to ponder. Six weeks of pre-move. Activities to plan. It's been a rough week and today kicked me to the curb and back. The ingredients) the ingredient...

Misnomer | What the...?
https://chickiedoodle.wordpress.com/2009/05/14/misnomer
May 14, 2009. Stop me if you’ve heard this:. How do you catch a unique rabbit? You ‘neak up on ‘im! How do you catch a tame rabbit? You ‘neak up on ‘im too! How do you catch a cheesy rabbit? That’s nacho bunny! I totally made that last part up. So anyway. Ricotta gnocchi. Exactly the opposite of doughy, leaden dumplings that splooge their way down to your stomach and coagulate there for at least three weeks. These are gnocchi in name only. For me, the obvious sauces that would go on regular, dumpling-y g...
Quixote's Tart: October 2007
http://tiltingattarts.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 19, 2007. A little Brother, a Box of Cheese, and a Cast-Iron Skillet of Ginger-Glazed Goodness. And today I write about him because J. returned from the post office with a big brown box. We opened it and found a cheesemaking kit (! 8211; a gift to us from the man that is my little brother, complete with a reminder note that “cheese is the food of the gods.”. It is hard – nay! Thank you, dear Bobby! We love the cheesemaking kit! Please trust me - this dish is beautiful. Subscribe to: Posts...

The Irreverent Cook: May Daring Baker's Challenge
http://theirreverentcook.blogspot.com/2009/05/may-daring-bakers-challenge.html
Wednesday, May 27, 2009. May Daring Baker's Challenge. It would seems that, when it comes to strudels, Singaporeans have been living in an alternate universe. All my life, thanks to Ritz Apple Strudel, I've believed that strudels looked like this:. So imagine my surprise when May rolled around, the challenge was revealed, and everyone in the Daring Baker community [and beyond] told me that strudels actually looked like this:. The May Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Linda of make life sweeter!
Kitchenlander: Daring Bakers August 2009 - Dobos Torte
http://kitchenlander.blogspot.com/2009/08/daring-bakers-august-2009-dobos-torte.html
Thursday, August 27, 2009. Daring Bakers August 2009 - Dobos Torte. The August 2009 Daring Bakers' challenge was hosted by Angela of A Spoonful of Sugar. And Lorraine of Not Quite Nigella. They chose the spectacular Dobos Torte based on a recipe from Rick Rodgers' cookbook Kaffeehaus: Exquisite Desserts from the Classic Caffés of Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. You will find the detailed recipe at their blogs. Boy, you do have to love eggs, when you have this torte! This time it was not so bad. Not per...

Wednesday, September 26, 2007. Glance at the Life: Good Friends and the Winter Project 2008. It does not go unnoticed by me that I owe any and all ability to post a picture to this blog to my friends. More particularly, to two friends: Carolyn and Genevieve. Slowly, with time, came comfort. Confidence with digital photography. And gumption. So much gumption, in fact, that a few months ago I whirled and whimmed myself into buying a new, complicated, and big camera. A Nikon D-80. G" is my friend Genevieve.
Quixote's Tart: December 2007
http://tiltingattarts.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 05, 2007. Wealthy in Good Living. I never made it out to pick cranberries this summer. I wanted to. I was even determined to. But I never did. I picked a lot of blueberries. But by the time the cranberries were ready, it seemed too wet. And cold. And, oh, how it rained - day, after day, for weeks. I guess I was lazy. Spoiled. Oh, such treasure! I bought it before anyone else had a chance to even glance at it! Oh, it was fun! Saturday, December 01, 2007. A Trip to Town (many months ago).
