My Danger-Filled Commitment: August 2009
http://roninguard.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 16, 2009. Return to Geek Mountain. Or rather that should be "from Geek Mountain", as I have just come back from a weekend at Gen Con. Oh, and one other thing: while at the Con, I got to talk with Ryan Sohmer and Lar DeSouza, the creator and illustrator (respectively) of Least I Could Do. And it still has the same effect. My Danger-Filled Commitment
http://roninguard.blogspot.com/2008/12/id-like-to-think-that-throughout-this.html
Wednesday, December 10, 2008. I'll let you take whatever meaning you'd like from that last line. At this point, I've developed a fairly sturdy style for myself and, as such, feel the need for something new. It's not that I don't particularly like what I draw now, but it feels like it needs more. I don't know. It's my hope that my trip to Thailand next semester might put things in perspective. I've heard that studying abroad changes your insight on almost everything. So who knows? Teaching Frederick Douglass: February 2010
http://teachingfreddied.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 21, 2010. In regards to my last post, where I request your help changing the educational system, here are two things you can do RIGHT NOW to help. Please visit the two following sites to help Bertie County. A TFA placement site) and Teach for America. Not deleted, but still not excellent. Oh February. February's been rough. And I needed to put some distance between myself and what has happened in order to write about it. I'm going to borrow her words for this one:. All this adds up to a ...

Teaching Frederick Douglass: August 2011
http://teachingfreddied.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 17, 2011. August 17th in a Series of Short Letters. I am deeply sorry for having disturbed your colony when I tried to pour myself a bowl of cereal this morning. It was terribly inconsiderate of me, especially the part where I unceremoniously dumped half a box of delicious cereal into the trash. Or the part where I cold-bloodedly drowned you in the sink to clean your swarming black bodies off the white porcelain bowl. Next time I will try to be more careful. Dear Donors' Choose -. I am ...

Teaching Frederick Douglass: Ball: Rolling
http://teachingfreddied.blogspot.com/2011/08/ball-rolling.html
Monday, August 15, 2011. Remember all that nervous energy from the last post? It's getting under control. How you ask? I have a long term plan that I borrowed and adapted; I have seven objectives written for my first unit; and almost without thinking about it, I'm getting the bones of my management plan worked out. Booyah, nervous energy, booyah. So so so so EXCITED! And, choir starts in two weeks. I. Love. Fall. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I'm still learning how to run. View my complete profile.

Teaching Frederick Douglass: May 2010
http://teachingfreddied.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 18, 2010. I am so glad that I am not held accountable to a script every day of teaching. Do you know how bored and frustrated kids get during a script? First I felt their attention drift. Then despondence settles in as all they want to do is get to testing, not listen to me talk. This deepens until I can feel each pair of eye staring daggers into me and my script. The near hate for the whole process is palpable by the end of those 15 minutes. Kids say the darndest things, part 2. Student: "Y...

Teaching Frederick Douglass: January 2010
http://teachingfreddied.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 25, 2010. You are not alone.". This is one of the things TFA tries to pound into our heads before we start the year. And right now I am struggling to keep it at the forefront of my mind. Not sure why, but I am feeling horribly alone right now. On a completely unrelated note, a small part of me is not looking forward to school tomorrow because I am a huge softie, and my kids know it. Especially H. Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Eight hundred fifty-five hours later. End of the semester means th...
