Jac's Blog: August 2014
http://jacsblog-jac.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, 21 August 2014. We’ve just got back from a family holiday with staying with friends in France (brave and generous taking in all 9 of us at once). Big skies and beautiful views. Markets (Bricolage for books! Textures of old wood and stone. Not much drawing this year but Mary, who is a sculptor and glass artist, got me a rock and I’ve been doodling in 3D. Its mostly carved, now I need to file and refine it. Then when I got back I found this waiting for me from Alison ( My pen, brush and pencil.

Jac's Blog: More exploring
http://jacsblog-jac.blogspot.com/2015/07/more-exploring.html
Sunday, 5 July 2015. Now I think I can fairly reliably make a straightforward gum arabic print I want to push the boundaries a little. I’ve started to experiment using the technique to combine images (with a view to adding text for book projects) and. To print my own drawings. I like the torn effect and the layering but I’ll need to work out how to incorporate the coloured ‘plate tone’ in the negative space into the design if I’m going to use this technique for text. 7 July 2015 at 13:20. I really apprec...

Jac's Blog: January 2015
http://jacsblog-jac.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, 29 January 2015. It wasn’t until I looked at the drawing here on the blog that I realised the perspective lines in the paving stones were going the wrong way. A bit of Photoshop later and they looked better. I’ve also used some photos I took locally as a starting point for another shop. I added flat colour to both and now have a set of colour separations ready for the risograph. I’m hoping they will look similar to lithographic illustrations when finally printed. Sunday, 25 January 2015. At the...

Jac's Blog: November 2014
http://jacsblog-jac.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, 27 November 2014. A little egg lay on a leaf. Earlier this year I signed up to take part in Pay it Forward. It took a while but my books are now safely with Jack. I haven't heard from Ersi. And her blog has been quiet for a few months. If you are reading this Ersi I hope you are OK). It started life as a response to the theme of Holes on Artists Books 3.0. But I decided it worked better on a smaller scale than the prescribed dimensions for that swop. Tuesday, 18 November 2014. I did cut and fol...

Jac's Blog: June 2015
http://jacsblog-jac.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, 21 June 2015. Since making ‘Fragments’ I’ve been working on a more complex collagraph print. Here is the block. And one of the prints. Saturday, 13 June 2015. In between enjoying a new grandson at home and going to Skye for a very waterlogged week with the old one I somehow haven’t got round to posting recently. I’ve been exploring gum arabic printing further with some larger prints. The scanner seems to have leeched all the colour out of the following ones). And more colour separations. The Lega...

Jac's Blog: Collagraph
http://jacsblog-jac.blogspot.com/2015/06/collagraph.html
Sunday, 21 June 2015. Since making ‘Fragments’ I’ve been working on a more complex collagraph print. Here is the block. And one of the prints. 21 June 2015 at 13:08. Is that two colour or are the tones achieved by layers of glue and textures on the plate? It is a very complicated image to make a plate for. Well done you! 22 June 2015 at 07:33. 22 June 2015 at 02:53. Wow - that is a detailed and complex block and print Jac - great result! 22 June 2015 at 07:37. 23 June 2015 at 13:12. Theres a photo at.

Jac's Blog: April 2015
http://jacsblog-jac.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 22 April 2015. The prints are out of the pressing boards and are hanging to make sure they are completely dry. I’ve been experimenting with making book cloth to for the covers. Sunday, 12 April 2015. I’ve been working but haven’t got much in the way of pictures to share this week. The long collagraph plate worked - 6 prints and 6 ghosts. Unfortunately I forgot to photograph any before I put them under weights to dry. Sunday, 5 April 2015. It needs a couple of days to dry out thoroughly then a ...

Jac's Blog: July 2015
http://jacsblog-jac.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Monday, 27 July 2015. I’ve found several accounts on line giving information about Richard Taylor and Simon Brown. When I’ve finished both prints I’ll combine their stories in a post and credit the relevant sources. This is the print relating to Richard. He was a weaver who was sentenced to deportation for stealing. He was assigned as a cook to Sidney Hospital where he learned how to mend shoes from a fellow prisoner. He eventually set up as a cobbler. He married and had three children. I decided that I ...
