Materials: PMMA, alabaster, aluminium. Type of lighting: High Power LED. This light forms were never mend to be light forms. The origin of this forms were cubicle sculptures of marble and transparent resin. Materials: foam-porcelain, glass, TL-lighting. A porcelain foam is developed during a residence period at the EKWC Den Bosch. Together with glass it is possible to make translucent panels. The panels resembles clouds, lightning, snow, dry deserts and other natural images. This natural light effect makes the whole installation (24 panels) very vivid. 1 art form of 24 porcelain tiles. 2 detail of the art form. 5 the making of. 6 tiles in the kiln. Designer/artist Jacob Alkema produces light forms and develops new materials. New light applications, new techniques and new materials are a trademark for his work. These light forms are always handmade, in a small serie or single pieces. Although technical development and material application are important, these definitely do not lead the design process. Monday, January 25, 2010. I woke up at 2:35 am on 1/18 with the third really strong contraction. I went back to sleep after the first two, but this one got me up. At 4:30, I started to need moral support, so I woke Jacob up. Not long after, it was MOST DEFINITELY time to get to the hospital. We dropped Zade off at the Bonds' house (thanks, Alysha! And went to the hospital. 40 minutes later, Stella Noel was born! I thought I still had hours and hours of labor left, but I'm so glad it was only 40 minutes.

Welkom op de website van Jacob Alkema. Als ontwerper / kunstenaar ontwerp en maak ik kasten en verlichting op maat. Technische uitwerking en juiste materiaaltoepassing zijn een voorwaarde.
