Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: She Flies through the Air, with the Greatest of Ease...
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2010/02/theres-good-reason-why-my-name-isnt.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Monday, February 1, 2010. She Flies through the Air, with the Greatest of Ease. It happened on a Sunday. We were living short-term in a corporate apartment, the kind that comes with all the furnishings, including pots and pans. (We were renovating our condo, and all of our worldly goods were in storage.). Walking with the pizza boxes in front of me, I didn't see the concrete bar on the ground- what a friend calls a "car-stopper.". I tripped and took flight. I saved the pizza!

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: March 2009
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Thursday, March 26, 2009. Seeing a movie taught me something about my relationship with my husband- or rather, it was seeing a picture of a movie house. Here's the theater where Eduardo saw movies as a child. It faces the central plaza in the heart of Santa Ana, the "heroic c. Ity" of El Salvador. And here is where I saw movies as a child. This explains a lot. Posted by Susan C. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). J D and Me.

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: March 2008
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Wednesday, March 26, 2008. El Torbellino (The Whirlwind). Spinning around and around with the pounding music and flashing lights and Donna Summer at MacArthur Park got me disoriented, like Dorothy spinning in the cyclone in. The Wizard of Oz. Like her, I tried to get matters under control, but finally gave up and just held on for dear life. Finally, I found the courage to leave the bricked path and make my own way. I've been amazed by the Technicolor world on this side of the r...

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: April 2008
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Thursday, April 24, 2008. My favorite Mother's Day gift is one I bought for myself at a sex shop in 2000. It's not what you are thinking. (But I did learn a lot while shopping.). I saw the Boblbee backpack. In a business magazine and cut out the article to keep until I had an excuse to get one. If I had to lug a laptop computer around the streets of Atlanta to my client's office, at least I could do it with a little panache. I had to. Okay, that's not the whole story. I had...

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: July 2009
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Saturday, July 18, 2009. You Say Tomato, I Say #*&%. Eduardo's accent charmed all the nurses, or so said the neurosurgeon who opened his skull back in 2007. Even lying on a gurney, wearing a hospital gown and struggling with symptoms caused by his massive subdural hematoma. He still had a way with the ladies. On the Florida panhandle. Eduardo saw these vacations as a chance to play gourmet chef, with my parents as a new audience to admire his cooking skills. At the beach we go.

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: July 2008
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Friday, July 18, 2008. 8220;You look like a picture.”. Eduardo isn’t the type to give compliments, so I was surprised and pleased, even if the phrase was a bit fractured. He does that a lot. One of my favorite of his reinterpretations of English phrases is “Goody Tissues” - and why not? That makes as much sense as “ Goody Two-Shoes. And, Lord knows, I have no room to criticize. I can’t do nearly as well in Spanish as Eduardo does in English. He can be a very good sport. It seem...

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: August 2008
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Thursday, August 21, 2008. Eduardo and I got married Labor Day weekend. By Halloween, I was pregnant. Scared to death at first, I was excited and thankful by mid-November. Eduardo was finishing his architecture degree at the University of Tennessee, and I worked nearby at the East Tennessee Community Design Center. In the Fort Sanders neighborhood of Knoxville, the area where James Agee grew up; the houses and streets he described in A Death in the Family. Instead of my name.

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: June 2008
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Thursday, June 12, 2008. When I wasn’t looking, Eduardo put my grandma in a corner by the bathroom. He didn’t ask me. He just took her from the place where I had displayed her, and nailed her to the wall by the door that leads from our bedroom to the bathroom. Even see her when the door is open. We found the print 20 years ago, not long after my grandmother died, a limited-edition print from a P. Buckley Moss. But I’m very glad we have her. Edition: 1,000 and 25 artist's proofs.

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: It's a Gift, and a Curse
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2009/07/its-gift-and-curse.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Tuesday, January 26, 2010. It's a Gift, and a Curse. It's like color blindness, except in my case, you could call it detail-blindness. I see well enough to function in the world, but I don't notice details, sometimes even when they are large ones. The first time I became aware of this affliction was at my first real job out of college. I worked at a non-profit. I almost fell," she said. She looked unhurt, just irritated. I was stepping over that stinking. Two weeks," and. That ...

Modern Day Lucy & Ricky: June 2009
http://moderndaylucyricky.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Modern Day Lucy and Ricky. Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Men don't understand a woman's relationship with her OB-GYN. You have to have a lot of confidence in someone to let them have full access when your feet are in stirrups and your nekkid nether regions are hanging off the end of a narrow table. And when it is a MAN, which most of my doctor choices were 20 years ago in the suburb where I worked, that goes double. Not to say that Dr. H- - is ugly, he's nice-looking, just not my type. Y heavenly stars yes.
